357 sig

The XDm .40 was 16 round, it would just take a conversion barrel...

Oops. No more XDm .40.

They could do the XDm 10, though, also would just take a barrel.

Doubt they will, though. .357 Sig might not be dead, but it's coughing up blood.

I have a Glock 33. It's a great carry gun; however, it hurts my hand so much when I shoot it that after 3 mags I have to put it down for a while. The short grip makes it a real hand pounder, but in my opinion it's a great round for personal defense. My son's first duty weapon was a Sig Saur 229 which he really liked, but his dept decided the ammo was too costly and went to 40 cal Glocks He was really disappointed that he wasn't able to buy it. I also have a Sig Saur P226 that has a 357 sig barrel as well as a barrel in 40 cal. The 226 is bigger than most people want to carry, but is really fun to shoot. The 357 sig round right now is hard to find and really expensive when you do. I think SA 1911 in the Sig 357 round might be a hit.

That’s a cartridge I never dug into. I just don’t know much about it. Is it in between a 9mm and 10 mm, meant to compete with 40 cal?
It’s a necked down 10mm to 9mm. Gives .357 mag velocities in an autoloader. Neat caliber, but very snappy recoil when run hot, and loud. Easy swap with (almost) any .40 pistol, all you need is a barrel.

USSS & Sky Marshal service ran it for a while, as well as Texas Rangers.

I certainly agree with HansGruber and will add - the smaller the pistol the snappier the recoil.

A friend has a .357 conversion barrel for his Shield .40...that’s a little powerhouse, doubly so with the Underwood loads he uses for carry. It’s almost as unpleasant as an airweight .357 J-frame...

I had a .357 barrel for my USP40 Compact, and that really wasn’t all that bad, even with warm loads...but that’s the USP. They shoot soft across the board. Sold it last year when I started consolidating calibers.

I always thought a .40 High Power converted to .357 would be a kick-a$$ carry gun, myself...but I think if I ever went that way, I’d just get a SAO P226 in .40 and drop in a barrel.

I have the Sig P320 Nitron Carry 357sig (14+1). It's not too bad, but as others mentioned, a little snappy (I was only shooting store bought range ammo, nothing too hot). I noticed that Sig seems to have discontinued this and the 40 (I also own, but in sub compact), from their Nitron P320 line (as far as I can tell).

Like Hans said FAMS used to carry the 357 sig, in a Sig. a buddy of mine is a Federal Air Marshal and now there are issues the G19. On behalf of the caliber, I have always liked it. It’s very accurate, or has been for me. It’s hot and could be a round to think about to “get off the grid” with. You could hunt with it, if push came to shove.

I have a Sig 229 and a 239 in .40 with the conversion barrels. Not too bad with the 229. The muzzle flash out of the 239 is impressive in the daytime. I'm sure it would be blinding at night. Fun to shoot but wouldn't want to do it for an extended period.
