7.62 X 51 FN rifle

I’m researching rifles and interested in opinions on the use, reliability and comparison of the 7.62 FN SCAR to the 6.5 creedmore or Grendel.
I run a FN FAL .308 and a Colt LE901 (competitor to FN SCAR for the Army contract, but Colt lost and FN won)

Also own a grendel.

Apples to Oranges like @HansGruber points out…

What are you wanting to know ?
What are your usage options ?
What do you plan to do with the rifle ?

Why .308 SCAR vs grendel ???

They could make a SCAR H in 6.5 Creedmoor, it would fit, but if they do, I haven't heard of it.

The 6.5 Grendel is shorter, fits in a 5.56 length action.

I’m looking at distances and accuracy. My brother had 6.5 Creedmore and a Grendel. It’s hard for him to find ammo. Based on my readings I’m considering buying a 7.62. I’m also interested in the new 8.6 Faxon just released.

Are you referring to the 8.6 Blackout cartridge?

The 8.6 Blackout is a cartridge developed by Q. It's a necked up 6.5 creedmoor case meant to push bullets around 300gr further distances than the .300 Blackout round while keeping the bullet flying at subsonic speeds which is optimal for suppressed shooting.

Faxon is a manufacturer of barrels and other firearm accessories not a firearms manufacturer.

The 8.6 Blackout is an intriguing cartridge for me as I appreciate shooting suppressed firearms and this round is made specifically for that purpose.

So, are you looking at a SCAR-H? They only come in one flavor, and that is 7.62x51/.308.

AS for distances & accuracy...how far are you planing to shoot?
800 - 1000 meters

yes. On 8/6 Faxon released a sentinel model of the 8.6

6.5 Creedmoor is a superior round for accuracy at longer ranges compared to 7.62x51 but the 7.62x51 hits harder than the 6.5 Creedmoor and is more commonly available which keeps the round cheaper in price. There is always a trade off with every cartridge and no round fills all roles. The best cartridge is the one that fills most of your needs to what you're looking to do with it.

Well I'll be damned, I didn't know they made that rifle. Also my info for the 8.6 round is from articles I read a while back so I'm sure things have come along differently since then as this round is still brand new.

Here's a link to the Faxon rifle and a link to an earlier article I read.

Faxon is now making complete firearms for the 8.6 Blackout. I’m very interested in this cartridge and to see how it does.

The 8.6bo is an ar15 platform-based cartridge. I had to double check on what other had stated about the cartridge aka 8.6creed. So now you're asking about 2 different platforms! The 8.6 is no different as the 300bo as being a more subsonic cartridge and a short range use weapon. 7.62x51 nato can go 1k, but best suited for 800 yards or closer (my opinion) The 6.5 crendel and creedmoor (because of better ballistics) is more accurate (mostly depends on the shooter) that the 7.62x51.

It's funny I've used Faxon parts for builds but I've never seen a Faxon firearm in the wild yet. I didn't know they even had a line of firearms.

We all learn something new every day. Glad you found it.

The 8.6 Blackout is a AR/LR-10 platform rifle as it uses a 6.5 Creedmoor case. This is the reason why it's referred as both the 8.6BLK and 8.6 Creedmoor.

I watched Gun Talk’s Ryan Gresham interview a Faxon Rep about their involvement with Q on the 8.6 and them starting to manufacture complete firearms for it. It was an extremely interesting topic that got my interest.

I'm going to look more into this topic so I don't jump the gun and speak out of context again on this.
