Where could I find a 8 round clip for a Springfield rifle about 60 years old. Don’t know the exact model name. My dad just asked if I could help find one online cause he doesn’t know how to use the internet but I don’t know guns, names or models. .308 clip?

So first welcome to the forum.
I’m sure you mean a magazine for the rifle. I would call Springfield and give them the serial number.
Call them at
(800) 680-6866
Good luck.

Don't know if the civilian Springfield Armory company has a historical record for all M1's (?) made for the military.
From what I have read there is no connection between the two. What we know of as Springfield Armory today started out as LH Manufacturing in I believe Texas and they took on the name and moved afterwards.

Yeah a mag. I emailed them a week or so ago but no response so my next step was a call so thanks for the number
Your welcome, it’s a shot in the dark,
(No intended Pun) they may or may not have any information. Doesn’t hurt to try. Emailing them is difficult calling is better. Good luck.

Springfield Armory commercial production

M1 Garand rifle

In 1982, years after the closure of the U.S. govt. Springfield Armory, a commercial firm of the same name, began production of the M1 Rifle using a cast, heat-treated receiver with serial numbers in the ~7,000,000+ range, along with commercially produced barrels (marked Geneseo, IL) and G.I. military surplus parts.

Production ended in the ~mid-2000's after ~ 10,000 "new" Garands were made. They were offered in the blue & white box. In addition to the new cast, heat-treated receiver, they were built with a new stock and barrel, but some internal components (op rod, gas tube) were taken from SA warehouse stock and reparkerized.

Military-contract M1 Garand serial numbers ended at 6034729 by H&R in early 1956.

A final, very small lot of M1s was produced by the US Govt. Springfield Armory in early 1957, using finished components already on hand. Beretta also produced Garands using Winchester tooling.

Can you post a pic of the rifle?

If it’s an external box magazine, it may be one of rifles Springfield imported back when they first got going…
