9mm revolvers

I think they just used .38 clips.
But I think cutting a .38/.357 cylinder for clips came along later, AFTER 9mm revolvers appeared.

I've been into clipped revolvers since the '80s. Bought my first Smith 25-2 (.45 ACP) about 1986. Been following them ever since, though I've never owned or shot a "clipped" 9mm or .38/.357.
 
Most 9mms I’ve slugged the bore on ran closer to .357”. Only one was .355”, a Sig P210.

That made me wonder if that’s the source of the 9mm’s reputation for poor cast bullet accuracy. If sizing bullets to the .355 everything and everybody says is correct, and the bore is .357 (or more), then yes, accuracy will be disappointing.
