A Major Change And A Regret Corrected.

Quick reminder: Run it a bit oily, and use 230gr FMJ for that break in period !! šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜Ž
I do have some FMJ Ball Ammo for break in and Iā€™m pleasantly surprised it looks very oily however Tuesday Iā€™ll probably take it apart to add more for break in. I will say itā€™s the first Springfield ā€œfor meā€ that is hard to rack the slide but Iā€™m sure it will get easier as it breaks in.

1) i have several 1911's that the slide is hard (for me) to rack back

2) i just checked mine, and yes, it too came with 2 MecGar mags. they work great, i also have 2 Wilson Comabt mags for that gun as well. (in fact, i must have like 27,998,482 Wilson mags)

3) you do know that has the Bull barrel, and as such comes with that tiny tool..??

do not lose that tool, but if you do, then a paper clip can be used as well.

My only experience with Mec-Gar mags is some aftermarket 10 rd. mags I bought 25 years ago ( during the Clinton AW ban) for a Llama Max II 1911. Every one of them jam, whereas the OEM 13 rd. mags that came with the gun perform flawlessly.

Hhhmmmm...

i have a selection of .45 ACP, and 9 MM MecGar, and they all work great. (before i went hog wild buying up all the W/C the LGS had)

maybe better production quality control and better quality parts/metals, manufacturing process, then back years ago...???

Not sure OM. I know a lot of guys here have good luck with Mec Gar, but if a better option is available I certainly would go that route instead. Unfortunately the only people making magazines for the aforementioned Max II is Mec Gar. They currently produce the 13 rd. mags. So I will probably buy a couple just to have them. Other than that I would surely opt for some Wilson Combat mags.

I just registered with Springfield for the warranty and of course was offered the discount on some items however none were the Mec-Gar magazines. The Springfield store does offer them so I will probably call this week and talk to a C.S. For options. I prefer staying with magazines that came with the gun but I have 90 days.

I agree about staying with OEM magazines, except 1911s since Wilson and other top tier manufacturers make magazines for them.

I am curious why there aren't Springfield branded mags for the 1911s, like with the XDs ? Does Mec Gar make the XD mags too?

It may be that Spgfld thinks the 1911 magazine market is too saturated (WC, Ed Brn, CMC, etc) to bother making any $ off of itā€¦
On the other hand, I find it a bit odd that Springer doesnā€™t sell parts, either.
šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø who knows?

my bro-in-law works at a machine shop, by the name of Metal Form......here in RI

they make mags for Armscor (current production going on right now in fact), Wilson Combat, and under the Metal Form label as well.

they have made mags for other companies, he just can't recall, in 9MM and .45 ACP, and .380.

maybe S/A wants to keep production limited to the firearms rather than accessories.???

I hope he gets you a good deal on mags? :)

Who has experience with the Mec-Gar magazines? I remember seeing them mentioned on the forum and was surprised to see them included with the gun instead of Springfield mags.

They seem to be very well made and solid, definitely not made from flimsy thin material.
They are the factory p226 (357sig) mags. Works great!
