A New Rifle In My Future???

Not moving on this quickly but when I was selling my M1A to a local LGS, the same place I picked up the Taurus 856 I was shown a rifle in 5.56

Now honestly I wasn’t paying to much attention because at that time I had other things on my mind so today I stopped back at the LGS to find out more about it.

What it is is a Ruger Mini 14 chambered in 5.56 and honestly I was impressed, it felt great and comfortable to shoulder and although I do have to be careful with my shoulder issue I feel confident being a 5.56 I could shoot it without issues.
I was also surprised to see it had a very similar rotating bolt action as the M1A

I remember many on the forum talking about the mini 14 so what I’m looking for is some reviews from members who own one including recoil levels.

Not much recoil from them. fun little plinkers although some was not that accurate. i have three of the older models, Top one is a GB model, middle is an AC 5.56. it has a switch that allows semi, full and three round burst, bottom one is a mini 30. horrible accuracy. but i haven't shot a lot of different ammo through it.

My Mini-14 is one of my favorite rifles to shoot.

Here's mine with the Sampson ATM walnut folding stock.

Older pre 580 series Mini-14's suffered from barrel whip when they heat up amounting to accuracy issues but this has since been corrected with the 580 series bull barrel.

I know you're going for that M1A look, but personally i would take a decent AR over one. and the reason for that is parts availability and mags. AR mags are cheap, mini mags are not. parts are also cheaper.
Actually not going for the M1A look at all however I want to get away from the evil black rifle AR look.

Also not looking for a bulls eye gun just something for occasional shooting and if the need arises security when camping.

Those are the one 5.56 rifle that has always appealed to me.

The newer Ruger Mini-14s are supposed to be more accurate than the older ones because of the newer barrel design.

I had one in 300 black out and it worked great. If I were still living in Arkansas I'd still have it because 300 black out is a very popular cartridge for hunting in Arkansas. Some hunters prefer the 300 blackout for hog hunting than a 223.

I've never liked the AR-15 look, even though I qualified expert with an M16-A1 the years I was in the Marine Corps('76-'79).

A few months back I came across a M-1 Carbine Enforcer(30 carbine, 11 inch barrel, pistol grip) that belonged to a fellow Marine.

It doesn't look like an AR and it's very handy for when I have drive near the Mexican border to visit relatives on the US side. It came with 3 30 round magazines, 10 rounder and 5 rounder.

Easy to shoot and conceal. It makes a good camping firearm. And it has that classic military rifle look I like...:)

My son in law just traded one of these in like new condition for a mid tier AR.

In Jan. 1980 I bought a mini 14 and loved that little rifle. Many have said they couldn't hit the side of a barn if they were inside it. I made head shots on groundhogs at 100 yards with open sights with it. Yes I was much younger at the time.

I also don't like the look of the AR15 . I have owned both and I will say at longer distance the AR will out shoot the mini 14 .

I would still rather have a mini 14 though.

I hope you can hit more targets than the A Team

no wonder it's hard to find the A-team! 10mm formally known as "Hannibal" at your service ;) o_O:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:. disguised as an everyday ordinary yeet master.

Thanks, how do rate the recoil on the shoulder?

My cousin bought one of these about a year after they were available when his Navy hitch was up. I shot it at 50 yards and found it fairly accurate and a soft shooter. He still has it and won't give it up. Haven't shot it recently as his career put an 8 hour drive between us. We keep in touch but weddings and funerals are the only times we get to see each other. He's retiring at the end of this year so I might get another crack at it. :)
