add on checkered frontstrap - Wilson

Yeah, I put one on my Ronin. Once you get it situated properly and lock it down it works really well. I was impressed for the price.

I am planning on trying one; I'm just waiting until I either place another order with Wilson, I get to a gunshow where someone has them or or a stainless one comes up for sale cheap. I am in no hurry. I would rather try one of these before going the checkering route as it's reversible. I just don't care for the grit tape look.

You can get it on Amazon for like $16 with Prime Shipping. Cheaper than paying shipping on Wilson

Thank you for the info; I saw that. I am a little on the cheap side and if I wait until I am making an order to Wilson anyway it'll only cost $10. I am in no hurry at all so why spend an extra $6?
Makese sense to me.

I want to get the front strap and the magwell. Last I checked the Magwell isn't in stock.

Currently with any purchase at Wilson they throw in a bottle of their Ultima II Lite Oil. It's good stuff. Sells normally for about $13.

I was leaning toward the Wilson metal strip but see there are mixed reviews and when I found they were aluminum and not stainless I am thinking it's not for me. That leaves Grip tape. What are your preferences in regard to the tape? I only have the one 1911 and don't need a large roll. Are the pre cut ones OK? Brand? Can the tape be removed easily and leave no permanent stain, gum, rust etc. I know rust should not be a problem with a stainless frame. Do they make some that matches the frame color?

well my Talon grips arrived earlier today, thanks @Talyn for the recommendation.

now, the "set up" to the application went like this...

"Dear, i need to use your hair drier"

"why, you're bald"

"i know, but tomorrow i go for my drivers license renewal (true i really have to), and i wanna style my head"

"oh for Christ sakes, take the dam thing"

so i ordered 5 ($5.00 each) as i have 5 1911's that need a front strap.

i ordered the Granulate-Black, and i tell you, it's a great feel.

here are some pics (and yes, you have to remove your grips) and i did have to trim it a bit, as it went just past the magwell)

I received a pre-cut strip from a member of another forum. I trimmed slightly to stay away from the edge and put it on after an alcohol wipe down. Not a perfect job but good enough. I have changed my mind about grit tape on the front strap. It works, looks OK, is very functional AND the price is right. Plus it is fully reversible if I change my mind. Not as classy as checkering but it works and at a much lower cost.
