AI and the media

I'm getting to the point where i don't believe nothing i see on the internet. so much fake and false information it's not even funny. some people see AI as a great thing. so far i do not. News stories with pics are the worst. people make up these and they are totally fake. but all look real. youtube is another site that is being destroyed by AI, so many fake stories and even music videos. people will do anything there for views. most of it is click bait anymore.

I have people send me e mails of stuff and i don't even look at it as i know it's probably click bait. all this political BS from both sides put up stuff that's not even close to being the truth. the more dramatic headline you make the more clicks you get i guess. I just don't see AI making life better unless you think living with false lies is a good thing.

Now AI will be great for special effects in movies and eventually they won't need any actors. I also see it putting a lot of people out of work.

Reason for this thread is about everything i looked at this morning was click bait, i knew it was so i didn't click on it. How do you guys feel about this AI stuff, you like it or not?

Rant over.

i saw a video where AI is helpful in the medical field, for new surgical procedures, so there may be some hope there.

i listen to talk radio everyday, usually "up to" 3 shows, at 3 hours each.

many times, when there is some sort of "News update" the so-called -person, is a voiced AI.......

what i "see" happening is more AI as on-air tv news casters.

the replacement of humans has started......many humans WILL BE replaced, in favor of profits over salaries, benefits, unions, equipment, and maybe even large broadcasting buildings, to maybe "tiny house" sized broadcast buildings.

Just yesterday my son in law was over here and showed me a supposedly news cast from somewhere about blacks were angry with Musk and had a pic of him with a battered face and another of a black guy hitting him. now all this was put together really well and the pics looked real. he ask me wonder if this is real, i said probably not. so i did a search and nothing came up about it. if that story was true it would have been everywhere. so another fake story.

Some people will believe all that crap, people should be ashamed putting up that fake crap to get things stirred up.

I agree with much of what was said above. However, since we are in the infancy of this new technology we will need to understand that some will use the technology to advance science and medicine and others will use it to create false narratives as described above. I agree that all the click bate is annoying but it always has been from the beginning of the internet.

I use AI for information that would otherwise take a lot of time and research. As an example I dabble in the stock market and much like a recent thread on the forum about trying to learn all the terms of gun ownership I get quick information on terms and investing concepts that I don't understand. I get it quickly and then based on that information I can make an intelligent decision.

My go to AI program is ChatGPT. It's free, user friendly and at my age that is a big plus. The other day I was asked if I new about a particular military patch that belonged to a deceased vet. I plugged in a photo of the patch and ChatGPT came back in seconds with the answer.

"The patch appears to be a U.S. Navy rank or qualification insignia. Based on its design—a red square centered within a white border, surrounded by blue with a yellow outer edge—it closely resembles the Navy Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist (SCWS) insignia or a related Navy qualification badge.

However, the image is slightly blurred, making it difficult to determine precise details. If you can provide more information about where this patch was obtained or its intended use, I can help further narrow it down."

Sorry for such a long post, I thought about asking Chat GPT write it for me but that's lazy.

Soon, if it's not already factual, the exploitative actors will soil the usage and application of artificial intelligence to the degree that few will have any confidence in it. IMO.

reliance on AI is negatively impacting human's critical thinking skills, which are already in short supply. it has it's usefulness in the bio-med research but i can easily see people simply believing what "mr AI" has to say and moving right along without confirmation.

I barely believe anything I might catch on the lame stream news (i.e. NBC, CBS, Fox, CNN, et.al.) let alone anything on the internet. What I do see is obvious click bait, and worded to provoke. I refuse to be manipulated by the media anymore, it feels like violation of sorts. I watch less and less news these days, as it seems it is all out there to stir up :poop: . Let's just say AI hasn't done anything positive in that regard IMHO.

If it’s an internet video you can bet it’s fake and you’ll win 95% of the time. I see stuff pop up on YouTube continuously that is pure horse hockey. Most of it is so obviously so that it’s comedic. “Bigfoot captured”, “Aliens spacecraft land in (pick a place)”,etc. etc.
