AI - friend or foe?

Enough said……

there "may be" a use for this in the future, like pre-recorded messages that are played over and over at the airports, train or bus stations, such as where to go for your tickets, information, baggage and passenger loading areas.

on the other hand, real people make a living do this as well, and that will take away thier source of income.

like everything else there are good and bad aspects to it. It is currently being used extensively in my field (molecular research) for modeling and predictive analysis, which can be useful. The downfall will be when the scientific community simply "believe the AI models" and forgo the testing/verification/validation. Science has gotten lazy over the years and I see this as a major concern.

I needed to update my iPhone anyway so I went with a iPhone 16 plus with supposedly AI built in, well it’s still in Beta mode and although they call it “Meta” it uses something called ChatGP which you need an account for and it cost money it’s basically Google. Totally useless.
Actually AI on the iPhone is pretty decent and ChatGPT is an extremely powerful tool that has many very good uses. My wife who is not particularly embracing of new technology has adopted ChatGPT into her workflow - without any input from me - and it has streamlined her work day significantly. I understand that AI unnerves a lot of people for a multitude of reasons, but it is being woven into absolutely everything and I think will be a massive boon to everyone. Is it perfect? Not yet, it’s still relatively early days, but it’s pretty damn good. Am I afraid of SkyNet? Not as much as I am the moron who calls himself President.

I'm 55. I have no idea how ChatGPT would help me work. I drive 3-500 miles/day calling on contractors, selling stuff to contractors to install for you rural homeowners that have a well for your water supply. My inventory is managed manually. I have no one with whom I work that knows anything about AI. How will this help me? God... retirement can't come soon enough....
