Am I the only one

I have a bug out bag in the event of a tornado, but anything else I’m camping out in my home. As long as I’ve got
Guns, ammo and a way to make a hot cup of tea everything else will take care of itself.
us to a bag of crap to grab as we head for the tornado shelter..
which is about 50 feet from the back door .. longest 50 feet in the world last time we had to use it...

Another one that amazes me is the city dweller who buys a small place out in the boonies with the intent of bugging out to there. SHTF and they have their well stocked little hide-a-way to run to. WRONG! By the time these people get to their place, it'll either be already occupied or picked clean.

I do have a bug-in bag. If I travel outside my normal comfort level, I throw this in my vehicle. It has a weapon, ammo, emergency supplies, first aid and food and water for a couple of days. Its purpose is to get me home where I can hunker down and ride it out. ;)

I don't think The Apocalypse is near, but it never hurts to be prepared for contingencies. I keep a trauma bag, a portable AED, tools, water, and various cans of ammo in my truck. I have lockable storage but usually don't leave any guns in my truck if I am not in there. Like most, my main concern is getting to or staying where my family needs me in an emergency, and that's most likely home.

You realize that you can drive from Chitcago to St. Louis on less than a tank of gas right ? And I’m 40 miles south of St. Louis in the middle of the woods. People who live in St. Louis proper could be bugged out safe and snug in the woods in less than an hour.

People in big cities need bug out bags more than I do.
Yup, but that’s presuming they Have a tank of fuel And that they can even get Out of the city in the first place. Plus, if the did stimble upon a deserted spot, there are still some basic skills needed just to survive, esp in winter.

Who gets cracked up when I see/hear the folks living in cities talking about their “bugout” bags. Nephew in Chicago was talking about his bug out bag with a folding carbine, a pistol and some other junk. I said “Ron, where are you bugging out TO? In a worst case scenario you are limited to the range of the fuel in your tank-presumingyoucan even get out of the city. Then what? There’s no “wilderness” to run to. Countryside is mostly privately owned and they’re not going to welcome stranger from the city trying to take their resources. Plus most country folks are armed and used to taking care of themselves. Even if you Found a wilderness, how would YOU survive? No shelter, no experience living without modern luxuries and power?” I love the boy but you could drop him 5 miles from a paved road in a land teeming with game, give him a .22 rifle, a knife and matches and he’d starve or freeze to death-and he’s going to “bugout”. The look on his face was priceless😊
Like your nephew, unfortunately like most other people have never through about the second part: "Where are you going to bugout too ❓

Without the second part known and able to accomplish such a task, they may have to hunker down in place an wait it out ❓

Yup a better strategy for many/most is the shelter in place. To do that, you’ll need water and food, plus the ability to defend yourself from those who’d steal. Remember the disaster in New Orleans following Katrina? If your plan calls for relocation you (1)need to have someplace to actually go, and (2) need to be en route as soon as things start to look funky so you don’t get trapped in the city. Wouldn’t be a bad idea (if you have the space (garage?) to have some stabilized fuel to top off your tank prior to your exit attempt.

I guess it depends on what you are bugging out from. I know most gun nuts think there is going to be a mankind caused apocalyptic event with everybody shooting everybody else, but my bug out bag is for natural disasters i.e. tornado or earthquake.
Gun nuts ? Kinda insulting.

I know plenty of people who aren't into guns who believe there will be some sort of manmade apocalypse. I certainly believe at some point, probably after we're dead, a revolution or a civil war will come, but more immediately one need only look back to the summer of love when democrats and the CDC shut the country down out of love for us all to see how little it will really take to touch something off. I watched old ladies fight over toilet paper. What do you think will happen when it's eggs and milk ?

This is a fabulous idea that I've never thought about. I do work away from home on occasion. Especially if I must trek home on foot, necessities would be necessary. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for your indulgence,

I have medical supplies, water, ammo, rain poncho, knives, granola bars and some other supplies in my truck.

From experience. Deer lease is far from good supplies. Forget ammo for .270 or .308 … uhh… crap. Starts pouring rain, lose elec at camp and cant cook.. you get the idea. Been there done that. I can fight my way home if I have to, or I can fight my way to deer lease. Well for water. Plenty of various livestock and wildlife and owner has a 1/2 care garden.
