I bought my Springfield mil spec, two years ago. I am now shooting with seven holes overlapping, and 1 inch away at 7 meters. The stainless barrel cleans up, wonderfully, and the trigger pull is very nice lending to this accuracy. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Once, on another board, I challenged everyone to name anything else from 1911 that was still not only in common use, but still among the finest things available in its category. About all anyone could come up with were some industrial-grade sewing machines, and some wooden canoes.
Here's a few of mine, including my "house gun," a homebuilt .45 based on a WWII Ithaca slide and Essex frame; lightweight .45 built on Fed Ord alloy frame with WWII Rem slide; .22 built on original 1924 1911A1 frame with Ciener .22LR conversion; .177 (BB)/CO2 Springfield Armory Mil-Spec that's perfect for basement shooting on days as cold as this one.

.45 is by far my favorite handgun caliber. I own five in various forms. Sadly, I don't own a Springfield Armory version but wish I did. It's getting harder and harder to justify the purchasing of a new firearm to my wife. Well, to be honest I am of the age where I shoot a lot less than I used to and so I struggle with "want", "need", and being "practical". I would love to have a TRP in the safe. I keep entering drawings in the hopes I might win one... hehehe.
It is telling that in the age of "cool" plastic guns the old tried and true still stands prominently on stage. Yeah, a lot of the new designs have raised the bar for reliability and durability, it's true. But the modern remake of this classic seems to have elevated the 1911 to a new level also. I have to run a brush through most of my .45s after every 50 or so rounds or at least add a drop of oil to keep them cycling reliably... yeah, I can live with that.
