Another 100 degree day

It's been hot and humid here, i haven't been online much as we had a big storm roll through with 80 to 90 mph straight winds and holy cow did it ever make a mess. if the ground hadn't been bone dry trees would have been uprooted, i just knew the ones in my yard were going. but several had broken limbs and sticks and limbs all over the place.

Power was out for about 15 hours and some it still is out. internet was knocked out. i have been in tornadoes before and seen crazy wind but never have i seen straight line winf this strong. several trees were blown over just not in my yard. either way it took me two whole days to pick up sticks and limbs. i have a huge pile i have to burn. i still have broken limbs to cut out.

Been there and it's no fun. It's one of those days about all you can do is say, well it could have been worse...

The last few days have hit the 100+ temp here. I like summer but not these temps. Gets old real quick. How's it been in your area?
I'm in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. It's been in the 100's here for a couple of weeks straight. They said we might get some rain next weekend. I moved back here in 2021 and the heat is not bothering me as much this year as it did back in 2021.

I get all my outside chores done before 11 am and then don't go out again until after 6 pm. Being retired has its benefits...:)

I have a few fans around the house and keep the a/c set for 82 and stay pretty cool...:) It's stays in the upper 70's, low 80's at night around here but you get used to it. Plus it's only that way from June until late September...:) The rest of the year it's pretty darn nice...:) And you can't beat the cost of living and the good people...:)

For us in North Texas that’s just called summer. Most years I welcome 100°+ because it burns off the humidity. Not this year though, it is Florida humid here. Last week, just like FLA we had a thunderstorm and 10 minute shower every afternoon.

Went to high school near you in Emory and remember the great heat wave of 1980 when Texans were dropping like flies due to the extent heat.

i was working doing rewiring of houses in rockwall that summer, all ATTIC work
we about died, insulation, bugs, some roaches in some places. old houses with wooden slats in ceilings and post and tube wiring
come out and even in the heat under a tree you would get the chills from being so hot in the attics. lost a few workers, but i worked for dad and he wouldn't fire me

next summer i walked all of Tawokoni east and west measuring telephone poles and wire crossings for the upcoming cable tv lay in of lines.. i walked almost clear across lake tawokoni that year from it being so low, i could walk out to the power poles . worst job ever, got paid .02 per foot (distance between each pole). about 100 bucks a mile.
