I've been to NM where they do allow fireworks and when public works are banned the city/county usually doesn't do theirs also. In a mountainous area it's more difficult to fight and easier to be safe than be liable!

I have a little more info from a person that lives in Ruidoso. He said it started on the Indian reservation 1 mile (straight line wise) from where he lives. The city was mandatorily evacuated. Arsen is likely the cause, but not concluded as of yet. Firefighters (well at least some have?) pulled out for tonight. Not sure of direction of travel?

My grandparents started going to Ruidoso since 56 or 58 I believe while my dad is still in HS. I've spent many of summer or summertime there every year until '96. Been off an on after that. I couldn't believe it got to 100° back in '86. Highest I've ever seen there.

Fire planes flying over the house all day bringing retardant to Ruidoso. Also have seen several helicopters with water baskets underneath them flying there also. Fire is still out of control, roads have been blocked and hopefully everyone is supposed to be gone from the town.

The Downs are is also under evacuation. 4 people of interest on starting 4 separate fires as 1 is detained and looking for the other 3. Supposedly 4 separate fires were started at or near same time. 4 Indians from the reservation are suspects. Fire or fires were started before dawn and weren't visible or reported until almost noon of yesterday.

Well it rained up there yesterday and now they also have flooding problems. From what we have been told here Ruidoso has been devastated. Multitudes of buildings have been destroyed and businesses gone. It will take years to rebuild the place. The fire is still burning and so far 2 people have been killed.. As it stands right now roads have been closed and will be for a while. My town Alamogordo does not have anymore hotel rooms available. Roswell is in the same situation. I have never seen the area so dry! I guess climate change is a real thing. I really feel sorry for all those people.
