A few days ago my of my friends from school passed away. He had been sick for a while but this came unexpected. Coming from a small town in Massachusetts everybody knew everybody and to me he was Roger. To the world he was Roger Cook. He made his name as a landscaper and then he became famous as the landscaper for the tv program "This old house". He was a good person, he really was. I used to stay in contact with him a few times a year and we used to talk about the crazy things we did growing up. We played football together, we had fun. Sometimes I think i'm still a young man then you get the call that one of your childhood friends has died. You read their obituary and you see they got old. In turn you yourself have gotten old. I will think of the good times we had together and I hope he can finally rest in peace with his wife who passed 14 years ago with cancer. I will miss him.

My condolences on the loss of your friend. I understand exactly what you mean. So many of my friends, guys I worked with for years, have passed in the last few years. I don’t think of myself as old, but losing friends gets you looking back and looking at the present.
It is never easy. Remember the good times.

I have one last good friend, others are gone. Sorry for your loss, I'm a Roger too.

I did not know him personally but felt I did as I admired his work from the time he started on This Old House until he retired. I see him almost daily in reruns of This Old House streaming on Samsung TV.

I get what you mean about loss of friends. My Mom lived to 98, often said almost everyone she knew was long gone.

Sorry for your loss, treasure the memories.

i did not know Roger personally, but i knew him damn well from "This Old House", (who wouldn't know or remember him from that show???)...........it was one of my favorite tv shows, when Bob Villa hosted it, and the home owners had to invest, "sweat equity" into the project...

nowadays, its a namby-pamby PBS show...and i just gave up watching it years ago.

Roger and his wife were very good at landscaping, and led the homeowners in the right direction.

i saw the show when he announced he had to leave due to his health, and from there i suspected he would never return.

he will be missed.

sorry that your school mate/friend passed.

thing is, at any age, but especially ours, we see this all too often than we'd like.
