Another Hellcat SMSc Review, LOL

Optic came this morning, didn’t want to sit flush, manhandled it and hand tightened without loctite. Adjusted dot at home, adjusted both ways to get dot sitting on front site.



Arrived at range with 200 rounds shooting at 15 yards. Shot first 10 rounds bench rested, home sighting was good enough for me. My trigger fundamentals still suck BUT focusing on dot verses aligning irons is a whole lot simpler with my supposed corrected vision, lol. The optic did loosen after 200 rounds so I’ll have to loctite when I get home.



On a positive note, flawless gun operation through 600 rounds which isn’t a surprise to me, Springfield is quality.

I don't use LocTite on optics. I do use a torque driver and manufacturer torque specs. Never had a problem. And I shoot a lot.

That must have been a little tedious.

I have clean, dry screws torqued to 15 in/lbs in optics on 12 gauge pump shotguns with over 2000 rounds of mostly 00B and #4 through it since. Still zero'ed. Not advice, simply for informational purposes only.

There are some Holosun RDMS that come with a dried dab of Loctite ( or some blue threadlocker) on them. I don't bother cleaning it off. I just install and torque to specs. Usually 13 in/lbs. A great number of rounds later they are all still dead on.

My FN Reflex screws came with teflon on them and manual said not to use loctite. Also torque value was only 7 inch pounds, crazy.
 
One piece of advice. When removing optics, especially if you tightened them by feel, do NOT use a driver with a disposable bit. Get a dedicated set of Torx drivers and ensure they fit correctly/tightly. I had to drill one out after breaking 3 tips. It wasn't pretty. In fact that's when I stopped using LocTite and started using a torque driver. :ROFLMAO:

This is my first optic that wasn’t a Holosun. My last Holosun installed on a Walther allowed me to fully cowitness and the Shield allows me to do the same on the Hellcat. That sure is nice not having to install taller sights which I’ve done in the past. I’ve played around with the SMSc in and outdoors and there’s no issue with the auto brightness. I’ve seen a torture test done on the optic so I’m not concerned about its quality.

This is me. The only dry screws I have had come loose are from two Holosun battery trays.

The photo showing the dot sitting on top of the front sight doesn't look quite right unless that's just your starting point. I put my pistols in a solid rest aligning the iron sights. Without moving the irons I move the dot to about the center of the window. Decide what range you want to zero the dot and shoot maybe a three round group and make final adjustments. The firing should be done using a pretty solid rest. This works for me but I'm sure some of the guys in this forum will zero their dots in different ways. Good luck.

I like where it’s at, good visual for me since I’m not use to 6 o’clock sight picture with irons, thanks though. 👍

Looks like battery needs replaced after 1 month, lol. I dry fire everyday and I noted no dot in bright conditions today. I place the hood on optic each night, guess I got an old battery, I’ll replace tomorrow then we’ll see.

I wonder if there is something in the thread milling on these. Like you I torque properly but the only weapon I have ever had an optic come loose on was this exact gun and optic that @bllefkay is using here... seems odd.
