Anyone suppressed the SV308 yet?

I’ve got a new .30 suppressor coming sometime later this year, provided the BATFE does its part in a timely fashion. I’d like to hang it off the end of my Saint Vic 308 occasionally.

I read up on the gas block adjustment stuff in the manual but it didn’t explain much. Customer Svc told me to test the jet screws first for extraction, ejection, and bolt hold-back operation. I tried them but none would lock the bolt back on the last round. I moved on to the adjustable set screw and after a few adjustments that proved to be the one to use.

My question is: is that all I need to do to run a suppressor on it or will I need to adjust it every time I run a suppressor?

I run a suppressor. I turned the gas block adjustment screw to full closed. Then loosened it by 2 turns and started from there. Found the semi sweet spot at about 3 to 3.5 turns to get it to function. It would run 3-5 rounds then have FTF issues. Let it rest and it would repeat 3-5 rounds then fail to eject.

Have not had a chance to get it back out to work in it

Tuning the gas port in an AR to use a suppressor can be quite tricky, it really comes down to what ammunition you will be using. Find good reliable ammunition and stick with it, jumping around to different brands you'll obviously get different results. You didn't mention if you were shooting supersonic or subsonic loads, yes you can buy subsonic .308 ammunition and if using either/or you'd have to account for the differences in gas pressures. If you were comparing a non-suppressed supersonic round to a suppressed subsonic round, then yes it would be more than likely you'd need to adjust it each time you changed to the other ammunition type.

I’ll only be running supers through it. Mostly unsuppressed but there will be times I’ll want to run suppressed. (I say that now....once I start running suppressed, I may find I like it).

Using the adjustable metering screw, I’m guessing I want it just *barely* locking back the bolt in the last round when unsuppressed? Because suppressed there should be more back-pressure and it should lock the bolt back much easier, correct?

Can I ask what you are running for ammunition and which can?

With my SV308 I'm using the IMI 7.62 NATO 150gr FMJ boolits and an AAC 762SDN-6 can, I have not touched the factory installed screw and mine runs perfectly fine suppressed/unsuppressed. Mind you, I'm also running the LANTAC nickel/boron E-BCG for LR-308, I'm sure that is helping a lot.

I do have some 200gr S&B 308 subsonic rounds I want to test but I do suspect I'll have to change out the adjustment screw at that point. If I ever get around to getting back out to the range, I'm going to compare the subsonic 308 to subsonic 300 BO, it should be interesting to see if those match-up close to each other. SMH, which really seems ridiculous, having a subsonic 308.

I’m going to try some 147 and 150 gr and see if that helps. Which I think it will

You know, that gas is a funny thing, a lot depends on the powder being used, whether it burns fast like ball or slower like the other types. You'd think that an over-gassed gun would operate better, but that is not always the case.

Part of the reason .300blk runs so good with subsonic ammo is the common use of a pistol length gas system found on most .300blk firearms. The pistol length system allows enough pressure to actually make it down the gas tube for reliable cycling. When you increase the gas system length you rob the pressure needed for proper cycling when using subsonic ammo. Most AR .308 rifles use a mid or rifle length gas system so shooting subsonic ammo with this configuration may never be truly reliable.

Yes I would agree, trying the M80 ammunition you'd likely see a lot better results, isn't the M118 ammunition for bolt action sniper rifles??

The SV.308 has chewed up 700 rounds of M118 unsuppressed for a long time now hog hunting. Just tried suppressed this last week with results described previous.
A gent I know runs the SV.308 suppressed and only had to adjust the gas block to about 2 3/4 turns for it to function smooth. Thus Started around there. Diff ammo is my next adjustment

Cool. Then maybe there’s no reason to mess w the gas block. We’ll try it and see what happens. I had forgotten some people run subsonic 308. I’ve got a 300BLK for that kind of fun.

Not exactly on topic, but since 300 BLK has been mentioned, I have a 8.5” 300 BLK and have run super & subs suppressed with no issues with either. Haven’t run subs unsuppressed. My lower is the same lower from the Saint Victor pistol I bought. No adjustments available, no adjustments needed.

I have the Bravo Company 9" 300BO upper mated to original Saint lower (2 Stamps - SBR/Suppressor), the gas block is not adjustable and it runs fine suppressed with subs, it has the LANTAC nickel E-BCG and 762SDN-6 from AAC. Which upper brand are you using and which can?

I’m using a MAS Defense complete upper with their BCG. Can is a Rugged Micro 30. Runs great.
