AR15 Upper Receiver Assembly

For two reasons I’ve been entertaining the thought to turn my Saint Edge Pistol in 5.56 into a rifle.
First is in case the ATF decides to turn the pistol version into an NFA gun and second I would like the option of having a long barred AR with out having to buy another gun.
Currently I get a flyer in the mail from Midway USA and in the recent one I got today they have a AR-Stoner AR-15 EV2 upper receiver assembly for sale.
My question is would this fit on my pistol lower assembly and is the AR-Stoner EV2 a good upper??

I was concerned about taking an AR15 lower sold as a pistol and building it into a rifle, but the enclosed article says it's okay. I'd consider rebarreling your upper with a longer barrel and a stock of your choice. That would leave you with a brace and a short barrel which if ATF decides to turn the pistol version into an NFA gun those parts might be like holding a hot potato! ATF might take a dim view of you having an upper with a short barrel that can put on an existing rifle. Reading the comments will offer additional insight.

Very few AR-15 platforms will be priatary? Faxon makes their skeletonized that fits their own like receivers. Faxon has mil-spec also that fits all other super and lower receivers. As far as SA that described upper will fit the SA. Colt could be another that isn't compatible? The AR Stoner isn't very good as far as parts. You might get bad headspacing, but they're good on returns. Make sure headspace is correct before firing to insure warranty/return.

I would avoid the AR Stoner from Midway as they are overpriced and marketed under a different brand.

AR Stoner is actually Bear Creek which isn't bad but you can buy direct from Bear Creek and save some cash.

You can also find really good deals on Optics Planet for Aero Precision complete uppers that will have a better finish and QC. Also the hard coat anodizing from Aero would probably match your factory lower better.

Pretty much any AR-15 upper should be a direct swap for your lower though I'm not sure how the gas system for a rifle length upper will work with the shortened Maxim buffer system on the Edge.

It would be best too change the buffer system!

^ Agreed w/@Recusant -

If you want to be rid of the "pistol" to head-off any potential legal worries, @Keystone19250 , understand that possessing the < 16" barrel'ed upper is the crux of your problem.

I thought it was the other way? Putting a shorter barrel on a rifle lower (carbine or rifle stock) would/could make a SBR depending on how short the barrel is? I don't fully understand the whole classification thing!

Very good article with a lot of great information, I may contact them for more information when I decide to move forward. Thanks.

It should fit, assuming everything is in spec. As for quality...AR Stoner is, imho, a lower-tier manufacturer that makes OK stuff.

I'd spring for a slightly better upper, if possible.

And that information is exactly why I posted the question. Thank you.
I try to research everything before spending money and yes if I’m going to do this I want a a high quality upper.
