I didn’t care much for this article either. But I will use this chance to get one of my observations/peeves/gripes out there.
Generally, and very generally, I’d say most people pick a scope with too much magnification. This is a straight-wall deer cartridge state (unless hunting on private land). That means more or less .357 Mag through .450 Bushmaster, with .44 Mag and .45 Colt being pretty common. I see a lot of these deer rifles with 4-16X and bigger scopes. I just don’t get that.

Nope. It's about a 38 y.o. Tasco 3-9x32 I bought when, long before I knew much of anything about guns, I bought my 1st hunting rifle. A used Sears model 53 .308, a Winchester model 70 remake. It's hit every deer I've ever shot at. I check 1-3 shots through it every year before deer season with the ammo I'll be hunting with and it has never been off. Extremely accurate rifle and the scope works for me. That's all it really has to do for me.
This years sight check, 1 shot, good enough for me. It takes me a few years to go through a box of hunting ammo lol.
