Maybe this belongs in the Lounge. Regardless, I found these remarks quite telling of why this thread is necessary.

I find it fascinating how so many flaunt their lack of knowledge due to their perceived social standing.

What exactly did he say? I don't see it in the article. God knows if I was that size and has a background in muay thai and grappling I'd feel comfortable handling myself, too. Hell, I'm only 240 with a background in muay thai, wrestling, and boxing and I feel pretty good about handling myself in an alley.

Go back and look again. The crap he said I'm sure even you will find ridiculous, condescending and self righteous. The dude frankly isn't that slick. As the article pointed out, his intent was clearly to influence people to vote for Biden. Pointing out that Biden wants to ban ARs is a pretty stupid way to do that.

And dude, Bruce Lee, the man who could whip anything that walked, would have had no chance against a gun. If you think bad guys are arming themselves only with their martial arts skills you live in the same bizarro land reality Bautista lives in.

I won't even address the ridiculousness of Bautista's comments as I'm sure we all know already the dude doesn't have a clue. Although at least he didn't call them AR-14s. :)

I wasn't saying anyone's going to beat a gun. I was getting at feeling more comfortable knowing you can thump someone. It doesn't mean he's going to walk away all the time but I bet that guy feels pretty confident that he can handle 95% of his encounters, perhaps making him think something like "why would I need a gun? The chances of me ever needing one are tiny." I'm not saying he's the sharpest spoon in the drawer (I've seen him do interviews) but I bet his sheer size gives him some feeling of security most people don't have.

I believe this is not so much a lack of knowledge although very close to sheer stupidity but this is more along the line of total arrogance in believing that he is special enough to flaunt his popularity to a point that he can influence the general public in supporting gun control.
Of course this “mentality” flys in the face of how these (special people) the “Rock” is another one again total arrogant individual have made their living using violent films and influencing the young and impressionable that violence is ok.

Yep, more hollywood "I'm a celebrity, people need to bow down and believe everything I say" bs.

I can tell you some truths from a guy who was about 140 lbs through high school, enjoyed fighting very much and was pretty good at it.

1st truth. Big guys are slow. Big dumb guys are really slow. And stupid. And they make very stupid decisions, panic, swing wildly and usually resort to attempting to grapple. Which only works if their opponent isn't smarter, faster and more brutal than them.

2nd truth. Big guys ( such as better than half of my high school football team) usually go through their teenage life not having to fight because a lot of people are scared of them because they're big. As a result the vast majority of them can't fight for ****. I'm not saying I never got my *** kicked, but I am saying it was very rare and I wasn't a guy who liked to fight people I already knew I could beat. I enjoyed fighting guys who, on paper at least, should have been able to take me. Most of them couldn't and didn't.

Now I don't know what category Bautista falls into here because I don't know anything about him other than he is big, he is dumb and he is a terrible actor.

He was a pro wrestler in the WWE, my opinion, he wasn’t very good then, he can’t act now, why do people even listen to anybody from Hollywood, you will find most actors are anti-gun, for examples, Clint Eastwood, Dwayne Johnson, Liam Neeson for examples. Again my opinion, most actors are leaning left, best thing is just don’t support anything for them.

Well wrestlers are at least athletic. All their moves are carefully choreographed. While it still takes a high level of athleticism to do what they do, that stuff will not help them in the real world except in that they are strong and possibly fast due to their training. That's not to say they don't know how to actually fight, but the two are not mutually exclusive.

I know enough that if you stand stiff legged to fight like almost everyone does, I’m kicking in their kneecap and the fight is over before he even swings

To take that a little bit further, almost everyone, when they throw a punch, stiff legs with their off leg. It's pretty easy to tell if someone is right or left handed when they square off. Opposite leg is a your new target. Let them throw the punch and take the knee from the front or the side and drive it into the ground.

I'm not going to compare tough guy bona fides. What I'll say is size does matter. My fighting weight was 190 to 210. I got in the ring with little guys who could sting me with a good punch but it wasn't close to stopping me. I also did 3 rounds with a guy who weighed 290. I hit him to the body with everything I had, and he said he could feel the gut and liver shots in his spine, but it was like hitting the terminator. He'd absorb shot after shot without damage but one of his one shins to my head and I didn't know what day it was for a bit. I have heavy hands but Bautista is huge with a thick neck; I have no doubt I could hit him with anything I have anywhere on his body aside from the nuts any he'd walk through it like it didn't happen. Pro wrastling is scripted but god help the not pro fighter guy who tangles with one of those men. All they have to do is start moving and any of us normal humans are going to have a really bad day. Slow as they may be it'd be like trying to beat a bulldozer with a riding lawnmower in a demolition derby.

As far as him being dumb...yeah, I think you hit that nail on the head :)

I disagree with that. Not about Batista necessarily but as a general rule. Particularly if we're talking about the real world and not inside a ring. And I'm not trying to compare anything. Size matters more in a ring, with rules and judges than it does in the real world.

"Slow as they may be it'd be like trying to beat a bulldozer with a riding lawnmower in a demolition derby."

Thats great, it brings home the mentality of a bully. Having a weapon nearby may seem ignorant to such a person but if it was their little girl or wife it would be another story.
