Beautiful Mystery Wood

Ya gotta tell me what color wheels did you go with? Did you go like colors or old s-cool with chrome?
I like the Torq-Thrust Ds in both black and natural (gray), don't care for 'em polished at all. Generally I like the black on lighter-color cars, and gray on darker cars. Either color would look just pure badass on a black '66 L72 Biscayne, but in the analogy I'm making here, the grays would probably be more appropriate. ;) Thanks for getting it! ;)

Gray on black does look good.

Believe it or not, I found a pic of exactly what I'm talkin' about on the net:

Snake45 .......... if you've got a true 'Murdered out', original '66 L72 Chevy Biscayne, it doesn't even need wheels to be cool!!! That's from a hard core, non-apologetic, GM/Chevy man of about 60 years. jj

Hell, if you've got a true, original L72 on the floor in your garage, I could just go sleep on the floor by it and die a happy man. Can't tell you how many of those I helped ruin back in the day by totally abusing them. I'm talking about the L72, not the wheels. LOL! LOL!

Wow, I'd say those grips are larger. It doesn't look like the originals laying there would even fit on the gun lol. That's a totally different gun now.
You're right, looks like .... and feels like ..... a totally different gun. I really like them. I'm thinking now about a set for my mod36 S&W Chief's Special as well. Both sides are really close to identical, just a bad lighting from one direction. Didn't notice till I posted them.

Edit: for typo

That was kinda my point. The L72 Biscayne and my Smith Highway Patrolman are both big, heavy, powerful but completely unpretentious machines that aren't anything "special" to the casual observer, but very cool to "those who know." But add those wheels, or those grips, and they become just that much more "extra." ;)

OK, back to grips .......... I went back to Ebay to find some nice grips for my Colt Trooper mk5 and found much confusion. Many ads talk about frame sizes and some even say 'these' grips fit Pythons and Troopers ????? Some say these fit Trooper 3's but don't mention Trooper 5's or Pythons. Some say Troopers/Pythons are 'J' frame, some say 'medium' frame.

They all look about the same but that surely doesn't mean they are all the same, and I'm not too 'up' on the frame sizes of Colts apparently. I do know that Colt doesn't typically use 'letter' sizes for their frames, but the grip ads seem to say they do. Just by looking they appear to all be the same, but I know better ..... and for the prices I'm seeing I don't want to chance it.

So, anybody here who can tell me decisively (no guessing) what grips will fit the Trooper mk3, Trooper mk5, and early model Python (early 80's), and a new style Python (2020ish), and whether or not any of the four will interchange.

Thanks, jj

Can't answer that for you but if you do order grips for a trooper it ought to fit one of the 2 you have lol. I know, no help at all. 😁😁

Hi JJ,

Sorry to hear your google died. Mine produced this answer in about 2 seconds: ;)

The New Python is supposed to use the same grips as the original. If that chart doesn't answer any other question you might have, feel free to ask. ;)

Re your new Charter grips, They look great and I have no doubt they feel great and even help you shoot better. However, they substantially increase the size of the gun. I have several Smith K-frame roundbutts and have a number of different grips for them, all of which look and feel great but increase the size of the gun, same situation you're in now. I set one of them up with a simple Tyler T-grip adapter and discovered to my delight that it now felt just as good as any of the other grips, looked even more badass, and the size wasn't increased at all. That could work for you, too, if you intend to carry the thing, and of course you can always bolt on your fancy grips for Range Day. Hope this information is of interest and use to you. Just tryin' to help. ;)

Gotta tell you I never thought to Google the answer to my question, I was just confused in reading all the advertised grips for various guns. And truthfully, I had to slip out for a couple hours anyway so I just quickly entered the post with the questions in hopes of having an answer or two when I got back (just about 5 minutes ago). I'll read the link you provided and hopefully see some daylight.

At any rate, thanks for all the help. I'll try to let y'all know what I decide after reading up on the Colt frame sizes .... what will interchange and what won't, etc.

As for carrying the little 'Undercover', that's not a consideration. I agree the new grips make it a big bulge to carry, but I sure do lile the feel of it now. Before the new grips, those little ones would beat my knuckles up bad. My regular EDC is my Hellcat with Shield RDS. I've been carrying that since I bought it a couple years ago. Before that for a year or so I used my KelTec PF9 with open sights. The only revolver I've ever carried much was my S&W mod60 in .38spl. So it ain't likely I'll be going back to a revolver, especially the Charter 'Undercover'. jj
