In .45, I’ve found the HK USP to be my favorite non-1911.

The top-shelf models-Tactical, Elite, Expert, & Match—are worth the extra.

While I didn’t have the .45, I did have one in .40, I will agree the USP is a very good option for you

I’ve shot one; it’s quite the beast. Incredibly light recoiling .45, feels like a 9mm.

What's the trigger like on those? I had a HK45 and ditched that sucker for a 220 Legion. I didn't want to have to make a pistol not terrible, I wanted it from the factory. Are the USPs better, especially for the guy who prefers a hammer?

It's not the weight that got me, it was the take up. LOOOONG and soft. For the cost they should be short and crisp

USP’s with the Match trigger are, yes; all the top shelf models have one.

The base USP trigger is nothing to shout about. It’s not bad, but it’s not great.

I much prefer my USP45 Tactical to my HK45 Tactical.

The Match SA trigger is shorter and cleaner. The DA is lighter, but still has a good amount of take up.

Or did you have a LEM model?

Just the basic HK45. I think it was V1. The DA was very long and the SA felt sloppy. I don't expect match 1911 crispness out of a DA/SA basic pistol but it was still very subpar. I lost 2 rounds going to the P220 but gained a much better everything else.

Glock, the plastic fantastic. G20 for the win.

No, really. My G21 converted to 10mm has been a hoot to shoot. Best part is that it shoots .45 ACP too.
