Big players

They don’t try in absentia…he has to be brought in front of them to get tried.

As for “living in seclusion”…he stays in Russia. Not really secluded.

He only leaves office in a box.
You are missing my point, if/when the International Criminal Court finds Putin guilty of the crimes it's going to be very hard for the oligarchs to continue their support going forward. Particularly those not residing in Russia. The international community will come down so hard on any that continue supporting Putin that his future will surely be doomed. I'm sure the International Court knows exactly what they're doing, their strength and limitations. For a guilty verdict to have no consequences would make them look useless and powerless, and I'm pretty sure they are not going to let that happen.

THERE CAN BE NO TRIAL unless Putin leaves Russia and stands in front of the ICC in The Hague. And that’s not going to happen.

If there is no trial, he can’t be found guilty—only accused.

QED.

No, it won’t.

It has no teeth. Look how long it took to get Milosivic out of Serbia…
Yeah it will. Once the oligarchs start getting squeezed, can't access their money and assets are seized the house of cards will start to crumble. Thinking Putin is going to get a pass just doesn't make sense.

If they decide he’s done…he’s going to have a Novichuk induced stroke. Putin 2.0 gets a nice little example of what happens when you step out of line.

He doesn’t leave office alive.

Either way, the ICC doesn’t mean a thing. I cite again Milosivic, and will add Pinochet as another example of how little ICC accusations of atrocities actually matter.

Your point is well taken, a lot of actions are little more than smoke and mirrors all made to look as if something is being done. But I believe this is the beginning of the end for Putin.

Yep, he could end up like Sadam and Muammar Gaddafi. It's just a matter of who does it.

Thing is, I don’t think Putin’s done…unless the Ukraine can defeat the Russian forces.

And that’s just not realistic. Yes, Ukraine is doing surprisingly well, better than anyone expected…but the full brunt of the Russian forces haven’t been brought to bear yet. When that hammer falls, it’s over for Ukraine.

The west grumbles for a while, but…eventually it’s business as usual.

What will be interesting is if Finland and Sweden actually follow through and apply for NATO membership.

If anyone thinks these Oligarchs money is going to be frozen forever you're out of your mind.
These sanctions and freezing of money are, in my mind, meaningless because we continue to buy oil from him. "You better stop invading foreign countries, mister! Or I'll keep buying oil from you"

I doubt Putin cares about the state of his economy the way the west does. Orwell already covered this.
Sadly true.
