Sportsman's Warehouse has a MSR on sale for $419. I looked it up and saw it had a lot of good features for that rifle style. My pulse quickened as I thought about it. Then I shook my head and said to myself, 'you don't even want a rifle, what are you thinking?'
I must have some gun compulsion or other. I see, I want, I get. Unless another wave of "want" sweeps over me, I'll resist and wait for another gun to temp me, like that Pietta hammered shotgun. Merry Christmas y'all.

You should build one. It’s less expensive , easy to do and fun. It’s also addicting.

Less expensive compared to what? I've had a few builds from scratch w/optic near the $4,500 mark and several at 3,500. If you're lucky enough to get parts on sale, then yes it's possible for an under $400 complete build. As far as the easy, fun and addiction part that's 100% true!

My shop has the S&W M&P Sport II, sights, a mag, for a little over $600.00 right now, I don’t need a fancy or expensive one, just one if I ever feel the need

this 1967 model 1911 colt is the best and most smooth 1911 i have ever owned.
got blasted for using a commemorative pistol for range time, but it is golden and very smooth

It's definitely a lot less expensive to assemble your own compared to buying a factory assembled firearm with similar parts. The main thing to consider is the investment in tools and technical ability. The tools alone are going to cost a few hundred dollars to get started for a complete build.

$350 to $400 is the lowest price's I've seen on build kits and some of these don't include lower receivers.

Sourcing the parts yourself can get you some better options for the parts and possibly stay in the same price range.

oh yes price is easy to get north of 2k, 2500 3k reallllllllly fast
my stag arms ar10, started at 1600, but once i added the luth ar adjustable stock, optics, access..it was a well past 2700

What kind of off the shelf rifle are you going to get for $400 ? One which you will end up swapping out the grip, stock, BCG and trigger on at the very least.
Sure you can build a $4000 rifle. But you can also build a bad as Giessele with all premium parts for under $1200. And that's buying the upper already built. Build the whole thing and you might get away with $800-$900. When I'm done with the Wilson I'm building I'll be in it for about a grand before the optic. Either one of those off the shelf are going to cost $2000 or more.

Well it too a few years to catch on in the market. But when it did - whew!

There a few companies that sell an AR for about $400-500 and they’re surprisingly good for the casual shooter. It’s hard to build your own for that.
