Buys that turned into great buys in the long term

I was sharpening knives this morning and the thought occured how great this buy ended up being. So what buys have you made, good price, so so or bad price that turned into a great buy in the long term.

Off the top of my head I can think of at least four.

The first is a set of Wilkinson Sword brand kitchen knives in March of 1979, 45 years ago on our honeymoon in Toronto. This little kitchen shop was closing and they were on sale. Being a knife nut I knew that at that time Wilkinson was a top shelf knife manufacturer. They have been the only kitchen knives we have owned and are still in great condition, they turned into a great buy.

Second was purchased some time in the mid 90s at the Marbles knife factory in Gladstone. I watched it being made and has been my favorite hunting knife since. It is also the blade in my GHB.

The third was in February 2000, after Y2K. A neighbor was trying to recoup money from his foolish over preps. I forget what I payed but I bought an East German Makarov and an Eaa Compact Witness .45 acp with 6 mags each and 500 rounds each for a couple hundred bucks. It turned into a steal. The witness is a nephews EDC and the MAKAROV has been my most carried pistol since, it is still carried in my GHB and carried often EDC.

Thr last I find I have no digital pictures of but has been owned rhe longest. In 1976 I bought a 1975 Trans Am and owned it ever since until three years ago. Great car which has never seen snow. my nephew now owns it as I promised it to him for his 25 birthday when he was a child an mymother gave his brother her camaro. It was a wrench to give away but, I always keep my word, even when I do not wish to.

While in college, I bought a Sims Jeff Phillips skateboard deck at a local Schwinn shop for $35.

About 7 years ago I sold it on Ebay for over $700. Used the money to more than fund a new S&W M&P 15 Sport II.
It was my re-entrance into this interest.

(The M&P 15 is long gone as I sold it and moved into different ARs in the safe. )

Nice. I have a couple Maks.

Probably the 2nd series Colt Detective Special I bought in about 1980-81 for $150.00. I'm not sure of the current value, but certain it's far north of what I paid for it. Sadly, I don't still own it .... I sold it sometime in early 80's, probably 2-3 years after I bought it. And I'm embarrassed to tell what I sold it for! Thought at the time I'd made a killing!

What the hell was I thinking?????????? jj

I've been collecting S&W revolvers for many years. Some of the guns I own are now worth 2,3 and in a few cases 4 times what I paid for them way back when.
I also have some other brand guns that are now worth considerably more than I paid years ago.
Ya just gotta keep 'em long enough.

In my experience most guns ( other than plastic handguns) appreciate in value over time. Sometimes even short term. I bought a KSG25 for $799 maybe 7 years ago or something. You can't touch them for less than $1200 now.
