Can’t decide which M1a

I am new to all of this so forgive my ignorance. What are some advantages or disadvantages to one model over the other. I am overwhelmed by the options. I was able to shoot a socom and it was amazing. I love the wood but I have been told over time it splits. Any thoughts?

Splits? Never heard of an M1A stock splitting in my life...

Basically it’s a hard decision to make. I wish I could give you the answers but I will say this “I’d take 2 of everything”

there's a match and standard barrel options along with 6.5creed and 7.62x51nato (don't think it's a 308win?). 16, 18.5 (couild be 18" instead) & 22" barrel length options also. 3 different stock options also.

my preference would be the 22" match barrel in 7.62x51...........the 6.5creed is boring

Couldn't help you here. I don't own one but they are fine rifles and anyone of them will give you years of great service.

I agree with @KillerFord1977. Knowing what you want to use it for will generally get you going in the right direction. Answer that question first.
I have 90 year old wood stocks that haven’t split and are in great condition. Considering today’s finishes i don’t see why a wood stock would split unless it’s abused.
Looking forward to what you decide on.

Well I would wait for the M1 guys to chime in, but it sounds to me like a Scout might be what you need.

I’d split the difference and get a Scout/Squad.

I agree, I think the scout is the probably the best allrounder. I like the look of the SOCOM more though, particularly with some of the third party accessories available.

Wood stock will outlast you unless you abuse the heck out of it, and even Then it’ll last a LONG time-those designs were intended to be “GI Proof”, and a doggie or a jarhead can tear up anything
