Changing XDs sight

Awsome ,thanks Pegleg !
Some are tapered dove tails.
Just wanted to make sure , I’m looking at putting in the XS combat type sights for these old eyes on my carry pistol.👍🏼

Well I suppose I'll find out soon enough, as I have a set of TruGlo's on the way for mine...

I can't imagine they'd be left-right tapered, otherwise your windage adjustment would be limited or impossible?

Yeah I know what you mean Pegleg but somewhere along the line I thought I heard someone say that some manufactures did have a slight taper and the sights should only be pushed out in one direction. Go figure

I’m looking at the XS Sights. They look like a combat site w/large front white that are aligned with a V-notch rear , tritium.

So, just to confirm - since all Springfield polymer guns (including my XDM 9mm 3.8") have straight dove tails, I should be able to drive out the sights either direction, correct?

I think they are very tight from all that talks about them-may need a full grown man and a small boy to do the pushing.
My Dad has done 2 of the XDM 5.25 so he replaced rear sight with a optics plate.

Yes they can be pushed out either direction or installed either direction.

I change sights professionally and I always make sure to keep several extra boys around, since they tire easily.

Be careful with statements like that in today's climate....

One trick if you're worried about dovetail taper is to try and fit your new sight from both sides - just do it by hand, no tools or anything for this step. If one side is tighter than the other...push the sight out towards the "loose" end to be safe.

I'm having trouble removing the front sight on my EMP (3inch barrel). There appears to be a set screw but I am unable to loosen it . Any thoughts.

I have one. Probably not the most popular idea here with all of us being "Hands on" kinda guys, but... Personally I wouldn't change the sights on any handgun. Wouldn't buy a sight pusher. For what XDMan charges to change out sights it's just not worth the aggravation. And his turn around times are unbeatable.

I had gunsmith's change my XD45's sights due to their rep of being a "Hillary" to change out.

The piece that looks like a set screw is actually a roll pin-I didn't realize that when I removed my front sight and promptly sheared it off-my sight pusher is fairly strong obviously.
I think you can tap it thru to the inside of the slide.

Thanks for the response. You are correct the front sight is secured with a roll-pin, not a set screw. I was able to knock-out the pin and install the replacement sight. On the other hand the factory-installed rear sight is secured by a set screw, which was very easy to remove; however the sight was very difficult to push out.
