Cheapest Gun You Love to Shoot

I've always been thrifty, and have wound up with more than a few cheap guns. Many of them were value-priced for good reason, but I also found a few gems. A lot of us have probably owned cheap guns that "got the job done" or were simply all we could afford at the time, but were never very fun at the range. To this day, my TriStar L120 is one of my favorite range guns. It's a Turkish CZ clone that sold for less than half the price of a CZ75 when I bought it. Do any of you have a cheap or discount gun that turned out be one of your favorites, even after you could afford an upgrade?

I have a Cooey .22 single shot bolt action rifle with a full wood stock. It was bought from a little gunshop for $20.00 (back when Pluto was a pup). It is a Canadian WWII training rifle with a crude set of sights but accurate enough to knock shotshell wads off a post at 50 yards (When my eyes were not so old  ).

TX22. $309 dollars of pure fun. I never get bored of it and it shoots as well as any pistol I have. I can’t wait to get my hands on the 5in version.
The TX22 was another one of my best low-price purchases. It's easily the most reliable rimfire semi-auto in my collection can outshoot guns twice it's price if I do my part.

Y’all know I’m a bit off...

It’s itty bitty but somehow still fits my big ol hands and, when it shoots a whole mag without something going wrong, it’s a blast. When it doesn’t, which is often, I curse and yell, finish the mag cursing and yelling, and then occasionally the mag gets pulled and I yeet it (mag) at a tree. Which, btw, actually made a few work better a couple of times. Those that don’t, tend to get beat with a hammer while I clean the guns that don’t talk back. I don’t give a 😅 about fixing it or the mags. Every time I go to a gun show I buy a couple for $5 and the saga continues.
Literally the best $50 I spent in the firearms world. Some kinda Okie stress and comic relief rolled into one.

I fall victim to this as well. I've had several problem children that took more effort to get running than they were worth. Some of them eventually became my most frequent shooters. It's almost a badge of honor that I actually got the things to run somewhat reliably. I can't tell if I'm a glutton for punishment, or just way too proud when my amateur gunsmithing actually fixes something.

My favorite cheap gun is the Hi-Point CF380 that I bought 20 years ago. It’s very accurate and extremely reliable. I like it so much that I was VERY tempted last week to buy a Hi-Point JHP 45 that had a price of $179 at a local sporting goods store.

I have a Taurus G2C 9mm I bought about a year and a half ago. I found it brand new at Academy Sports for $259.99. All I've done is put fiber optic sights on it, otherwise it's stock. It's never jammed, never had malfunction with it at all. It eats any kind of FMJ or JHP ammo I can throw at it. It's a solid concealed carry handgun for the price.

I actually enjoy shooting my Ruger LCP. The challenge of accurately shooting such a small pistol, with a long, heavy trigger pull actually allows me to work on skills that work with any handgun.
I loved my LCP II so much that I picked up a used LCP Custom at my LGS last year. The LCP Custom's trigger isn't as good as the LCP II, but it really isn't too bad. I keep seeing original LCP's advertised for $249-$279 on gun.deals and am tempted to pick one up so I can have all the generations. I'd probably already have done it if ammo was more available.

My Son is the executive chef at 3 sports bars and always busy. they have had some problems with hold ups and drunks starting trouble. He asked me to go to a Rural King store in Shelbyville KY and buy him a Ruger 380 to carry in his pocket, also a High Point C9 9mm. I picked up the guns and a few boxes of ammo for them. (pre covid) When I delivered them he gave me the money I spent on the whole order. Then handed me the 9mm and ammo, said he knew I had a 22 and a 45 and just thought I needed something in the middle. He paid $129 for the High Point C9 and even though it is ranked as junk by gun dealers and collectors, it is accurate and trouble free. Can't get cheaper than free, or even the $129 he paid for it, it's my backup with my 38 special.

M&P 22C. Inexpensive, reliable, and just fun to take to the range and plink a few rounds (when ammo was readily available). The ergonomics are identical to the EZ9 and EZ380, so no changes req'd to muscle memory, and as a bonus, they all fit the leather and kydex holsters that I initially bought for the EZ9. When/if Federal makes the Punch 22L available that was mentioned in another thread, I'd consider carrying the 22C as an edc.
