So I went to our local LGS today in search of my smith and Wesson model 27 . They did have one new but in a 4inch I want the 61/2 inch one anyway they had the model 586 in a 6 inch man it was tempting. I was wanted that model for a while but ever since I check out the model 27 I was sold on it . But man I almost got that 586 . Your thoughts

Totally agree!
If you have a chance to compare side by side the Royal Blue finish of the older compared to the black finish of the classic hands down would go to the older, the older one will always hold their value.
If finish is not important you can't go wrong with a six inch model 28.
And 28’s can be had quite reasonably.

I got my last one—a 28-2 4” with a fair amount of holster wear—for a used Glock.

By the way Hans I never did this before kinda excited

I had a model 28 a few years back, 6” barrel, pinned barrel and recessed cylinder, target hammer and trigger with the Goncalvo target grips, same as a model basically except for the finish, 28 ‘s are dull blue while the 27 is a high polished blue, gave it to my brother.

I agree to go for an older Model 27. The older the better. There is absolutely no comparison between these older guns and the new ones. The Model 27 and earlier ".357 Magnum" were S&Ws flagship revolvers. The very best they could make. Beautiful and functional.
The current version of the 27 is just another mass produced revolver with nothing special about it.
Nothing wrong with the Model 28. The 28 was designed to be a LEO firearm. Pretty much the same as the 27, but with a plain finish and no fancy checkering.
Also nothing wrong with the 586/686. A little bit smaller, but designed from the ground up to be the ideal .357. (y)

Yep; the 28 was the “Highway Patrolman”, basically a 27 with a less fancy finish (also just had a serrated barrel rib, where the 27 had a hand checkered rib & top strap).

Exact same internals, though; the triggers on my 28’s are no different than my 27’s.

I think I've posted these before: two Model 28s, a Model 19, a Model 65 and the second picture is a 4'' Model 686. If you buy several you can take turns shooting them. If you have only one you're bound to wear it out. Very few revolvers made today have triggers that rival the triggers on the Smiths from the 1970s.
