I listen to a certain amount of "modern" country music and I like a great deal of it. IMHO the two greatest influences on modern country music are Jimmy Buffett and Tom Petty. About 30-40% of what I hear could BE Jimmy Buffett or Tom Petty songs. And a few of the songs even mention Jimmy Buffett or Tom Petty by name. What they call country these days sounds more like bad 90s pop music to me. They can have it.
EXACTLY... I don't listen to many if any country music stations any more. Nothing wrong with young people having Rap in their version of country music. But a performer loses points in my book when they try to act "country" while singing RAP to a country beat...I have been detecting "Rap" (or whatever you call it...) in my country these days. I have resorted to downloaded playlists of old country to get me to and from work in one piece lately.
Sturgill Simpsons voice sounds like Waylon to me.No outlaws left. Closest thing we got these days is Hank 3.
