I think he's talking about this sentence, which was yours:

One of the guys who was nominally on the security team turned around and told her that I wouldn't be able to attend because I had to go to my quarterly pistol qualification with the security team.

That's weird. I could have sworn he said retirement.

 Why would someone consider it odd that members of a church security team would have to meet a minimum competency requirement?

Can't speak for @3L120 but I don't find it odd at all, I think it's pretty darn good to hold this on a quarterly basis! Better than your local PD for sure...

Just to clarify my previous statement, the training was offered quarterly we were required to qualify twice a year.

Since it was free training from a professional instructor I went every single time it was offered as did most of the people on the security team.

Every time it was offered there was a qualification.

Members weren't required to attend every training session but if you attended one and failed the qualification you couldn't carry a gun until you passed.
