Considering a Colt 1911 45acp Gold Cup Trophy...

As the title states, that's currently what I'm looking at purchasing.

In the price range, I know there are other options and I've been mulling it over extensively, but this is my top choice at the moment.
Is this a great choice or is there another option that would be all around better for the price point? ($1,700)
(Personally I like it, how it feels and the features it has.)

Any and all feedback, thoughts, opinions, personal experiences are appreciated.

Top is the Competition, bottom is the Classic, as said, you can’t go wrong with a Colt especially now since CZ owns them

You ever have a Desert Eagle, I had one in brushed chrome in .50AE, highly overrated gun, to big and heavy, looks good in the movies though......
I shot one of the old original ones. It was ok. The ones these days are a lot more "Svelt".

I like the ported models, but still dam heavy….lol. The one I had was still made by IMI in Israel.

In the $1k - $1500 range, Colt's are one of the best options, imo. But as mentioned, when you get up to $1700 or so, you're getting into DW territory and I'd go with a DW, given the choice. That said, these days there are only a few DW models that you can get for $1700. A new Specialist is probably going to be closer to $2k, unless you find a good deal somewhere.

The Specialist also has a rail, so if you really want a Government size 1911 that is more traditional (rail-less) like the Colt Gold Cup, then I think the DW "Pointman" would be most directly comparable, and those you can find for $1700. And if you really want to "buy once, cry once," then get the DW flagship model, the "Valor." It's a really fantastic 1911.

i too have the Pointman PM-45.....(45 ACP)

i also have the Heritage (45 ACP), but i see by the website, they no longer make it.??

might still get a new one in stock at some gun stores. (if i recall, both my DW's were nearly the same price, and i told the LGS owner, "i'll buy both, if i can get some off the total pricing of both"

he took $300 off the total....

The Heritage is/was a really sweet model too. I didn't realize they'd been discontinued, either. Do you have a preference between the two?

The new Colts—post CZ takeover—are getting back to decent. That’s a pretty nice 1911, and I don’t think you’d go wrong with it.

That said? I’d get the Dan Wesson (funnily enough, another CZ product) for the price…thing is, once you get close to $2k, you can move into a much better 1911 for not much more cash.

Personally, I’d stretch a bit, see if I couldn’t find a used Baer, Wilson, etc. for under $2500.
