Craziest "Sale" Price You Have Seen for a Gun During the Shortage

I was sorry to see that. I've purchased components from PSA and Bear Creek Armory in the past, and have always been happy with their products. I understand a moderate markup if parts and materials go up in price, but both of these sellers doubled their prices on products that they produce in house. Stunts like that may bring some temporary cashflow, but gun buyers tend to remember these things. Back when they had a physical store in town, everyone I know shopped at Cheaper than Dirt. I don't think any of us have bought a single item from them since they started gouging after Sandy Hook.
Yeah I can definitely hold a grudge against any business I feel is taking advantage of a situation. Pre-Covid I was buying from PSA all the time but it's very rare for me to shop there now.

Primary Arms, Midway USA, Joe Bob's Outfitters, Brownells, Wing Tactical, & Rainer Arms have held pretty consistent pricing on most items through all this so these companies have been getting a majority of my online business.

Primary Arms & Joe Bob's usually have the best pricing.

Yep, Academy and Bass Pro will be long term beneficiaries from this gun chaos by refusing to price gouge ammo and guns.

It was incredibly wise and forward thinking of them, they don't need the temporal profit boost to survive, the mom and pops that did it may pay long term.

I've been able to get stripped lowers for decent prices locally and also I picked up a few from Joe Bob's and Primary Arms recently also. There's still deals to be had if you know where to look. I stopped buying anything from PSA once Covid hit because they started gouging with most of their products doubling in price. I just picked up another Aero stripped lower for $90.00 that I will be putting together soon from my LGS. Ive been a big fan of Aero Precision builds and I've got quite a few now.

AR-10 parts have been tough for me to find in stock anywhere but I just scored a new 20in Faxon heavy fluted .308 barrel for $179.00 for a Aero M5 build that's almost complete.
🥱 How many times am I gonna hear this story.... 😂🤣

Yep, although right now builds are pricier than normal as well. PSA is no longer cheap at least for the time being.

Check out the absolute gouging on Gunbroker some dealers are getting by putting cheap optics and a basic store bought quadrail on an M&P 15 Sport II, they're going for north of 2k, sometimes as high as 3k.

Panic buyers and newbies with no gun knowledge fall for the pretty pictures and think that the bidding war means it must be a hot item.

M&P makes a fine basic rifle in the Sport II, I'd trust it with my life, but I wouldn't pay more than MSRP for it.

Regarding PSA that's true. But to be fair I only did business with them when they had an exceptional price on something or were the only ones that had what I wanted. Their customer service sucks.

That said, there are still a few decent deals on there. For example the Tavor TS-12. It's currently only $100 more than it was before Covid.

Academy has had fair prices before covid and now, its only a slight increase. I was getting Browning 124 gr 9mm for $8 a box pre covid. Was $9 when I was able to snag some a few weeks ago.
I've had similar results at Academy. Every time I have found ammo in the store it has been within $1-$3 of the pre-COVID price. Bass Pro has just recently moved things up $3-$5 per box on most centerfire calibers, but they didn't raise prices at all for most of the pandemic and still provide free shipping on ammo orders over $50.

In my area, Academy has always had the best prices on ammo, and reasonable prices on new guns. Bass Pro/Cabela's is known for average prices on ammo, horrible prices on new guns, but great sale prices on both. I can't speak to all markets in the country, but the only way to really beat Bass Pro or Academy's ammo prices around here was to order cases from online sellers, and right now both stores are beating most online sellers by a significant margin.

No need for them to price gouge. They were already high as hell on everything.
I disagree about Academy, their optics have always been on sale compared to other mass retailers.

Academy sells Romeo 5's in the 99 to 149 range while most others sell for at least 199.

And when they've had 556 since Covid, it's been 7.99 to 9.99 a box for Frontier and Winchester Green Tips.

I was told by an Academy employee Daniel Defense stopped doing business with them because they didn't like how they tried to negotiate down the MSRP so much.

It's $45/150 at Academy right now. Out of stock, but...

To be fair, everyone's manufacturing prices have risen because of a scarcity of primers and projectiles.

It's costing many manufactures 300 bucks for 1000 primers, where is used to not even cost 100 for 1000 primers.

100 for 1k primers?!?

I bought 5k SPP early last year for $40/k, and thought it was getting a little high...

Remember—the big guys make their own primers...we get what they aren’t using for ammo.

The smaller manufacturers are the ones that are really feeling it.

I was referring to small operations with that stat, should’ve clarified. My apologies

Yeah I wasn't talking about Academy really. I was mind locked on Bass Pro / Cabelas.

Nah I think it's more of a supply and gouge everyone mentality with most of these shops. The LGS I visit most hasn't really upped their prices much more than a few dollars on most firearms and they said they are paying slightly more so it's passed on to the buyer.

They just got in 100,000 rounds of .45acp 2 days ago and now they have less than 3000 left because they are selling it for $21.00 a box which is a bargain during this panic.
Most LGS's even big boxes here pass on their costs as well, but most try to be fair when they have ammo and guns. When some gouge too far, I walk away. I do remember which ones do and don't gouge and will remember both of those kinds for future purchases too. Online's about same from my experience.

Haha. No. I may look at it again later. Never know. Always wanted an hk usp

thank you to whoever bought the usp 9mm. Saved me 1k when I went to go look at it again.

prob would not have been a good move since I still have 2 brand new sigs I have. Yet to shoot and a p938 inbound.

although if I ever run into a xdm elite compact it’s a buy now scenario.

Local place has a used one for $759, was there a week or so ago. It's a later model (Bx date code, black case) and comes with both 15rd mags, manual, key, etc. I'd call it overall very good condition.

If you want, I can check on it later today, and if it's still there, PM you the info.

Found a very sweet Ruger single action KBN-3275 8 round .327 revolver, box, papers all in almost mint condition for about $600. No, not Single Seven model. Now finding ammo? Has a good range of .32 caliber ammo to use. Finding them is another issue?
