Our grade school desks were wooden with the flip top lid. The front had inkwells. I think it was to go with the decor of our 1923 built building. Sadly, it was torn down the last time I looked through Google Earth.
Yeah, but they were good for protection from nuclear weapons-otherwise we’d surely not have been taught to get under ‘em when we saw the flash🙄. I mean, it WAS the government telling us and you know how truthful and honest they are….

During WW2, Springfield Armory produced an estimated 3.5 million M1 Garands. Production at Springfield Armory resumed in 1952-1957 for total of around 4,188,669 produced.
Note this does not count the M1 Garands produced by Winchester, International Harvester, and Harrington and Richardson.
