let me tell you a story about R2D2 CIWS (close in weapons system) it can be placed into an autonomous setting where it will WAKE up and track targets and make a decision to riddle them with bullets at lighting speed if the folks up in combat dont tell it NO . it also has a few other settings to TRACK and come alive, without shooting , this setting is what you would call VERY active, it will constantly move and track all kinds of stuff, even seagulls and let combat decide to add live rounds
when we fly to the ship in the helicopter to land... the combat guys are supposed to turn it to standby or OFF which means "no track the the friendly air craft". or the IFF system will see your a friendly and turn the barrel away from you
but occasionally the checks and balances mess up and this sucker will COME TO LIFE as your on final approach and do everything but spin the barrel as it tracks you landing....talk about increased pucker factor pressure
it gives new meaning to OH CRAP
its also a very very very deadly little critter. it never misses until runs of out of bullets, which takes about less than a blink of an eye to go through 1500 rounds of 20 mm bullet shaped objects it can run 4500 rounds per minute but only hold 1500
