Defensive Revolver Calibers

I have an essentially new (very few rounds through it) Ruger GP100 4" in .44 Spl. For field use I bought Buffalo Bore 44 Special 255 Grain Lead Keith-Type Semi-Wadcutter Gas Check cartridges from Midway. They claim 1000 fps at the muzzle. That should be a potent round for what ever comes my way.
