Denali or McKinley?

i say, if things are going to go back to the original names.>??

then put back up all the statues as well...and if any were destroyed...??

have new ones made, at the cost of the cities/states that yanked them down, in favor of "wokeism".....

let them be "woke" for changing history

I agree. The administration is squandering resources proposing to rename a bunch of things. That is not what they were elected to do. Almost looks like sabotage from here. I wonder where this effort is really coming from?
Hans said it well: it's pointless and pandering to morons.

It's Denali. The guy who named it McKinley didn't discover it.

Naming bases for traitors is stupid. Arnold Airforce Base is named for Hap Arnold, not Benedict. How can a "patriot" want to honor a traitor who took up arms against the country?

Do you really need a statue to remember who someone was? It's not erasing history. Those people are all over history books, and not as heroes.

These aren't people who should be memorialized. Fighting a war because you want to own people is not good "heritage", and slavery was mentioned as the cause of succession by at least Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and South Carolina.

Yes, we used to have statues to and bases named for traitors. We also used to have polio, leaded gas, Jim Crow laws, and sprayed children with DDT. Then we realized that's dumb/wrong and moved forward.

All the renaming stuff back seems either stupid or people wanting to honor things that shouldn't be honored. It doesn't own the libs; we don't get mad about it we just think it's dumb to hang onto unfortunate things.

Just imagine the stupid price to replace the signs at each place! That's a huge waste! We need trees removed for safety reasons along a 4 mile stretch whi live, but money gets averted elsewhere! Most goes to larger cities for whatever reason to use as they see fit and have nothing to do with safety. How about this price.......1/4 million per mile to remove said trees! Not all trees, but only those deemed unsafe. Years back when a tree THAT SHOULD'VE been removed wasn't and killed someone as they drove under it. Not the whotree, just a very large branch that hung over the road like a canopy. Since the fire back in March several have been removed thankfully!

To the victor go the spoils. The leftists changed names, now the side I fall on changed names. I served on several of the bases that were re-named. I 100% want those names changed back. That it bothers liberals makes it all the better. The left can try again in 4 years, or maybe 8 or 12 years.

On my level of give a s$)T don’t care about the mountian or gulf.

Now if they could rename the army bases back to what they were but I would like to see General Moore honored somehow as he of all people should have a base named after him but Benning has such history maybe something else

The “Gulf of America/Mexico” was covered in another thread. I thought I’d stir the pot with the Denali vs McKinley debate. 🤔

I’m partial to Denali. “The Great One” is a more fitting name for a mountain in my opinion.

It can be listed as both, as many other examples are to recognize indigenous peoples history.

For example: "Lake Superior" is called "Gitche Gumee" because it is the Ojibwe name for the lake, which translates to "Great Sea" in English. The name is also spelled Gichigami or Kitchi-gummi.
