Personally I try to keep a minimum amount of at least 500 rounds for every caliber I have. I don't actually count but eyeball the supply every time I go to the range. As far as self defense aka carry ammo after I verify my guns like it so to speak I keep a minimum of 100 rounds of that on hand. Just my two cents...

I keep an exact count/inventory.
Each caliber, brand, grain, type. I also keep record of the amount of rounds through my firearms along with their serial numbers. On a spreadsheet, stored on a jump drive and not on my main PC. Seems a bit paranoid probably but it's more that i'm just a bit anal.

Sure thing. For reloads I use common storage items found around the home. Empty and cleaned peanut butter jars, mayonnaise jars, planters or sams nuts canisters with the twist top.

I do with the exception of reloads. Each cartridge per bullet weight and/or style has it's own place with a tag stating amount and when it was last counted. Pistol cartridges also the same way. I need to reorganize due too adding 6.5prc in the mix. Usually, it's separated by smallest cartridge and lowest weight bullet going to largest per. I like keeping a minimum of 1k per cartridge, but not limited to in combination of multiple bullet weights in the same. Multiple caliber cartridges of the same are organized by lowest power to highest power.

This is what I take to the range. When the top can gets empty it's time to order. I also keep my 22 and 223 ammo in cans as well.
My carry ammo sits top shelf of the safe and rotates as well

During the long cold winter, I made a spreadsheet with all my ammo by caliber, I included the purchase date and lot number. It also has each firearm to track the round count fired.

I didn't include shotshells yet.

Now weather I will keep it updated is another story, but I do have a spreadsheet for my car that includes every fill up, price per gallon, oil change and gas mileage for the last 20 years It helps me remember paying $1.319/gallon for premium when I first bought the car.

I probably should add the number of times I dry fire my pistol

1 for all other ammo, new and reloaded

OR, install a poly/plastic gang box and either have a single or double outlet inside? You don't need an extension from the external part going to a home outlet, only a pigtail so not to have excess wiring dangling.

i don't jot down lot numbers of new ammo, but i do jot down information on my reloads, like grains, bullet type, powder brand, OAL, and date of reload.

then, like my new ammo, i rotate the reloads as well.

for my vehicles, i jot down mileage, date, any work done, where done and cost.

MPG's or price of gas, would drive me (no pun intended) up the frigging wall..
