Do You Read Firearms Magazines?

Years ago, I subscribed to over 40 firearms related magazines. Some of them came with memberships in organizations like the NRA or SASS and others like Shooting Times were a subscription item. Many were specialized like Combat Handguns. I looked forward to their arrival and normally read them cover to cover.

Not so much anymore. Yes I still get the ones that come because of memberships, but my subscription list is down to one because the articles have gotten too general and too short for anyone other than a complete neophyte. Worse, the articles are often written by self appointed experts whose price per word fits the magazine's budget. My single paid subscription is for Gun News which still seems to supply some pretty good information.

Have I just become jaded? Do you have subscriptions you look forward to?

I used too also. But haven't subscribed for many years now. Everything is online. Same with news. I haven't had a newspaper delivered a lot longer than I quit subscribing to magazines. I get everything I need online. It is kind of sad though. I do remember looking forward to the next issue of my favorite magazines showing up in the mail.

Nope. They're advertisements presented as entertainment. That was a euphemistic sentence for propaganda. I don't read NRA periodicals I receive.

If you're after ballistic knowledge, I'd recommend professional journals of medicine, law enforcement, and university research.

I only get the "American Rifleman" (with my NRA membership), and subscribe to "Rifle" and "Handloader" magazines now. I occasionally pick up a Firearms News off the newstand if it's a worthwhile issue.

Used to get/like "Shooting Times" but when G&A bought them out and changed it dramatically I dropped it. Used to also get "Combat Handguns" but dropped it also.

Used to get "Precision Shooting" also but then they folded.
