Does the Color of My Reticle Matter?

Reticles have come a long way from the simple duplex crosshair in our grandfather’s hunting rifle. Today we have a dizzying array of different reticle designs that we can use on both rifles and handguns. Even more recently, we have had a selection of different colors of reticle illumination. The color of our reticle does matter.

Blue does sound interesting. With my astigmatism, I've found green is best for me. Also I've got a couple gold Holosun reticles on ARs that are pretty nice - but I've found, I had to set them a lot brighter to see them - but the gold is nice as well.

Timely thread. I’ve got nothing but red and I don’t have any issues with them. I’m fixing to put a 507c on my VP9 though and have been going back and forth about red or green. All my other dots are on rifle and shotguns. Well, I have a Venom on a Q5 but I never shoot that gun. This will be a carry gun.

I prefer green, but it can be pretty hard to find green reticle versions in stock.

I had no problems with my dragonfly optic in red. I didn't like the fact that i had to re-zero after a battery change and turn it on. I wanted a shake awake so I bought a Holosun 508t in green, boy is that nice. The green for me is easier on my eyes.

Take a look at the 507C- GR with the ACSS Vulcan reticle. That extra large circle is like training wheels for dots.

The regular 507 has the circle and the dot. Which I’m already used to since I have a pile of Holosuns on all my shotguns and rifles. Not sure I need or want the arrow shaped dot. Not opposed to it I suppose.

Clear could be inconvenient. Red for me. I've tried other colors but red just seems to track better.

The biology and science behind how (most) human eyes process colors and how that translates under stress to our reticle or dot color of choice is very interesting.
