Drywall Ballistics: Testing Modern Ammo Performance

Probably not many houses with 15 layers of drywall before exiting an exterior wall. Also my house has insulation in most of the interior walls. But that's because I gutted it and rebuilt it.
does it work more as for sound, than temperature applied

There's always ballistic drywall. It stops most handgun cartridges but any rifle round will zip right through.
I had no idea there was such a thing until we put up a safe(panic) room for the executives at work. They did put regular drywall over the top.
If you're not familiar it's a woven fiberglass and epoxy like board. Yes I did try some scraps that were thrown away. Stops 9mm completely, 10mm will shatter the epoxy and delaminate the fiberglass woven fabric badly.

With some studs in there. And insulation.
So…a square hit on a stud will usually stop or slow a bullet so much that it’s ALMOST harmless; it will usually end up stopped by 1 or 2 layers of drywall (depending on weight; heavier will do better than light). It will also normally cause an upset, causing it to tumble…which slows it rapidly—again, more pronounced in lightweight, high speed bullets.

I’ve shot inside old homes, and will state…old plaster & lathe walls are a LOT better at stopping bullets than drywall.
