Elmer Keith was larger than life itself. To others, he was a blow-hard gun writer full of manure. Certainly, his reputation far exceeded his size 5 cowboy boots and mere 5’ 6” height.

I believe it was real. He did not advocate shooting at this distance. The dear was wounded and possibly getting away. He merely used what he had along with the experience of a lot of long range "plinking" and got lucky.

I should have become an enthusiast long ago. Alas, in my younger days I spent most of my money on booze and women. And the rest I just wasted.

Still a heck of a shot with a 9mil that only took 2 shots. What he needed is grenade launcher sites . He said he was ranging about 70 yards past target. Now how much for wind

Good a shot as it appears to be, and there's not many any better than Jerry M, it likely took way more than the 2 shots we saw. Not taking anything away from the feat ... he's just plain good!!!

Full discloser. I grew up reading Elmir Keith. Was/am a fan, and most always sided with Keith vs O'Connor. If you're a Keith fan and paying attention, this subject comes up every 5 years or so. Having read both sides of this over the years, the bottom line is that even the people that where there said it happened. E.K. tended to rub people the wrong way he tended to be blunt, to the point, and opinionated. Just because I can't do it don't mean someone else can't.

Yea, people with skill (and a LOT of practice) can do some incredible things with handguns. I’d rather face 3 or 4 goblins with AK’s than Miculek with a J frame
