External Safety

I believe there are three of my semiautomatics that don't have real, positive thumb safeties, the Glock 22 that was my issue weapon, and my SIGs.
The Glock my yet sprout one, as there is a company that makes, mods the customers frame, and installs it. The company name eludes me at the moment though.
Well a new Glock may sprout one, my issue one will stay as it is.

Cominelli, iirc, is who makes the thumb safety mod for Glocks.

Glock actually makes/made models with thumb safeties, as well, for some large customers.

Correction—it’s cominolli, and they are no longer around.

Safety on all but one, a S&W that will soon get one thanks to @USMC6094 for giving me the idea ;)

I see no problem with it, some states require it, and it's part of training. MAS50 had it, PAMAS G1 had it, never been a problem. Back in the days the orders were even "empty chamber and safety on"

Not having one doesn't bother me, but like @HansGruber said, while using a handgun without one there is always this awkward "thumb grabbing at nothing" moment...
Everything ain't for everybody. You can train around it either way. I have one striker that has a thumb safety. It was actually my first striker. A Shield PC .40. I trained with the safety on simply because if there is a safety you better damn well go through the motions of thumbing it down regardless of whether or not you engage it as a matter of course. When I carried it I did NOT engage the safety, but when I drew I went through the motions. Muscle memory. Just in case. I don't carry that gun and haven't in a very long time. In fact it's sitting in a location very near to the couch my parents watch TV from.

This thread reminds me of a Poly-Tec M14 I had once.
I had it built as a bush gun, 18 inch barrel, gas lock front sight, VLTOR modstock, and KAC railed handguard.
The modstock was an ergonomic God send, pistol grip like an AR and took any M4 stock you wanted.
It was so AR like when you shouldered it, my thumb instinctively went for the safety selector that WASN'T there.......

Most of mine do not have thumb safeties. Those that do, I do not engage them and I generally don't carry the ones that have them. I am always conscious of where my trigger finger is, so I don't feel that that I need to use them. The only reason the ones I have with safeties have them is that they were the only models available at the time and I HAD to have them that day...I am such a child

2 of the 4 pistols in my carry rotation have manual thumb safeties as there was no choice otherwise. When carrying the non safety versions, I sometimes find myself sweeping for a safety that's not there after the draw upon presentation to the target and keeping the trigger finger off the trigger until i'm on target ready to shoot. Bottom line for me is train and practice with whatever you carry. Train, Practice, Shoot...Repeat!

AMEN brother sing it again!
Truth be told Bassbob I don't carry a phone. I carry the gun the Mrs. can carry the G.D. phone.
90% of the time I am out in public my wife is not with me. I also am forced to carry 2 phones for the majority of every day. One is my work phone. I was told I could use it as my personal phone and they would pay for everything. Bassbob ain't fallin' for that :poop:.. Work phone is for work stuff, period.

Much better idea as anything you do/create on work equipment is technically your company's property
