Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II — Gun with a Plane Around It

I think the F-16 is on about Block 8 improvements making it quite a departure from the Fighting Falcon. I had two assignments as a civilian with the AF and never heard anything but "Viper" when referring to the F-16.
At BAFB, we hosted a group of F-16's from a base in Fla. during a hurricane evac. As the President of the base Hispanic Heritage club, the ranking visiting pilot "gifted" me a squadron patch (which I gave to my grandson). The patch had the words "Fighting Falcon" on it. We also had some F15 Strike Eagles sheltering there. Our home bird (67th TRW) was the RF-4C, "Reccie" Phantom.

While I was in the Guard our Huey's trained with A-10's as a joint exercise. They would fly with us for a short time then shoot off ahead and prep the LZ for our blue teams in the Huey's. Once we made the insertion, they would loiter overhead, for a short time. Later we would go to the PZ and retrieve our teams with the A-10's assistance.
