I remember watching the launches at school.

1962 February 20 - John Glenn becomes first American to orbit Earth.
John Glenn lifted off from the launch pad at Cape Canaveral at 9:47 a.m. on February 20, 1962.
Some 100,000 spectators watched on the ground nearby and millions more saw it on television.
After separating from its launching rocket, the bell-shaped Friendship 7 capsule entered into an orbit around Earth at a speed of about 17,500 miles per hour.

I remember watching the launches at school.

Me too--I'd have been in 2nd grade. Watching the space stuff was a Big Deal back in those days.

John Glenn was kind of a badass back in the day. Flew in Korea, making him a Childhood Hero of mine. Many years later, when he became a US Senator, he became a big gun control nazi and got on my permanent Ess List. Too bad. Ah shucks oh well.

for the first time in years, i watched that "right stuff" movie. the testing trials they went thru back then.

and what has been accomplished since then.

and there are still people living in caves.......

My POS sister was 16 months old and probably weighed 30#, my brother was just a "bun in the oven" and it would be 44 more months until I was hatched or found in the pasture or adopted, but the last 3 are subjective .
