Finally got some range time

The grandson (13yr old) and I finally made it to the range this morning. Traveled lite, just taking my M&P EZ9, grandson's Ruger 10/22, and a bx of 50 rounds of ammo for each firearm. It has been three months since I've shot, and it was well apparent. Only the second time using the EZ9.

First time using Fiocchi ammo, and ran some 124grn FMJ, shooting from 14yds. The pic below shows my first few rounds, and it got progressively worse after that, for some weird reason.

He used the majority of his ammo shooting the steel @65 yds away, and doing fairly well. He faired much better than me today. 20200616_123006.jpg

Grandson's 10/22 target, iron sights, benchrest, at 14 yds also:

Grandson might have got too comfortable and had less breath/finger control? Every time I shoot it's all a learning experience, "What too do better next time"? Starting early is always a good thing! Happy range day for sure!

Yep, he occasionally forgets to flip-up the rear sight......and still does well at times. :)

I read a couple articles yesterday about tightening your groups, one was about using a tighter grip and the other was about focusing on the front sight. I thought I did both pretty well before, but I tightened up my grip even more and concentrated even more on the front sight and it definitely helped!

Absolutely good tips which I try to work at each time. I normally do a bit better, and the 3 months lapse in shooting sure shows. Went through my ammo fairly quick, and spent most of the time "coaching" the grandson with his 10/22.

It's great you were able to take the grandson shooting! Hopefully you won't have to wait as long till next time. I rarely go 3 days, I couldn't handle 3 months without shooting! Working on a good trigger squeeze definitely helps too, if I think about it I do really well.

That comes with gritting your teeth and tightening your jaw also! Don't forget about clinching your cheeks (you know the non facial ones)?

It’s great you got to take your grandson shooting and as much as trying to teach him, just the fact of making memories makes it worth it. I do the same with my nephews, on shooting, fishing, ect. and it’s difficult trying to get them to do what you do or do what you want them to do.
the grip, that’s great. I’m right handed and that being the case that hand will pretty much hold the pistol, firm but not extremely tight and my left hand will be the hand that grips the pistol really tight. From how I was taught, and also being backed up from what I have read.

The 3-month lapse in practice was mostly due to the Covid-19 fiasco, and rapid local shortage of ammo. Our range (pd mbrshp) was never fully closed, as it's outdoors, and self-served, but I was hanging-on to what ammo I had remaining. No RO/SO on-site, and every member knows the lock combination. When the virus impact hit I was caught short of ammo, having just been to the range on March 14th, the day after I bought the M&P EZ9. Have been getting my ammo stock back up to speed slowly but surely through orders lately, as there's still not much to be had locally, unless one uses shotguns, which I don't.

Finding ammunition has been difficult for me also. I can find 5.56/.223 in bulk but not 300BO
I've started ordering through Federal. The recent order I rec'd last week was delayed for about 3-4 days past the delivery date due to "civil disturbance" in Illinois somewhere. You never know these days.

I stopped shooting 2x a week due to ammo shortage and prices going from $170 per 1000 9mm to $270+

cant wait for covid and riots to go away so routine can go to normal .
