firearm purchases

What lengths would you go to buy something (regardless of price) even if there are funds to support the buy? Paying over 1k for a pistol is something that would kill me to do. Al though I did but a DE that came with 2 barrels (6 and 10") then later bought 2 barrels in 44mag (mags also). My beloved 629 8 3/8 is a ridiculous price now over 1300 when I bought 1 new (many years ago) at 400. A p226 cost me 869, but now is another 400 extra. Having a 45-70 I would consider a bfr just to have a pistol in the same cartridge. I however would pay 1500 for a ba receiver. Do you have limits on what you wouldn't spend on a purchase if money wasn't a limiting factor? I know the memes are coming and most would state they would buy when money isn't a factor, but still?

Honestly, at my age I find myself more interested in downsizing, than buying. In order to buy something I already have, perhaps not a surfeit of, but certainly more than enough of, I find myself needing to find an actual need or justification to myself.

An example being a Springfield EMP, of which I am covetous. I find it hard to justify the purchase of a new 9mm pistol when I have a perfectly fine example in the P365xl. There is a loophole I am considering however. In the past I have always considered two weapons for every caliber I own a must have. Hmmmm...

I hear ya! How many of the same cartridge does 1 need or want is up to them? I mostly have 2 guns per cartridge with the exception of 10mm. XDM, g20, g40 and s&w. I had the 2 Glocks before getting the xdm (one of the purchases that you get the gun, range bag and 3 extra mags). I bought a s&w m&p (1.0) in 9mm that's been a really good gun, so the 10mm was a no brainer buy. If they offered it in metal I'd buy it. Probably sell/trade the poly?

my most expensive gun was the Korth Mongoose revolver.

i had the money, and it was a treat for me, to have such a well made revolver.

my last purchase, was a few months ago, the Sig STX 1911.

i think i am done (for a while) buying guns, and more now is being spent on reloading.

in time, i hope to get a Henry rifle, but if not, then so be it.

it's not that money is "no object", some of us, maybe many of us, sacrificed over the years to support our families, and now it's "me time".

some guys go into that "midlife crisis" and get a Vette, or a Mustang, or some other vehicle...frankly, that's not for me. guns are still cheaper than cars, motorcycles, and a red headed mistress in a condo, you bought her.

There are definitely handguns I would pay over a grand for. No strikers, but definitely revolvers and 1911s and other steel hammer fired semi autos.

During my career I did spend a lot of cash for mostly 1911’s Les Baer, Nighthawk and Wilson Combat. I felt it was justified as we were literally shooting thousands of rounds a month. We used one gun strictly for training and one strictly for deployments. Also some handguns were better suited for different mission parameters so I would buy those types of weapons. Now being retired there is no way I would spent that kind of money even if I had it. Honestly, I can’t justify that either. I still have those firearms so there is really no need to make new purchases. In these inflationary times I don’t know how these folks can afford some of these handguns today spending in excess of $5000 for some guns. At the end of the day gun manufacturers are doing such an awesome job I don’t know that you can buy a bad product from a reputable manufacturer for less money that will perform just as good as the more expensive guns.

Add another 24 years there……..
62 your still a kitten, I’m not saying I was planning on working for ever but expected to retire at around 67 however my body had other plans. I turn 65 in January and I’m enjoying
semi-retirement and working part time.
That being said I’ve made the decision that I’m done buying guns but want to pick up a holster for my Emissary and still looking for a holster for my Taurus Revolver as a cross draw back up gun.
