First time Shooting after almost 10 years

Hello everyone, my name is Jennifer. I have just come home after about an hour at an indoor range here in Katy, Texas. I just wanted to say that I am the happiest I’ve ever been in years and I am very proud of myself.

Today was my first time getting behind a gun in decades and being around a firearm in general since I was forced to defend my family (alone) from a gunman who opened fire on me, my immediate family, a police officer, and other persons involved.

This incident changed my world at such a young age to where I could no longer function in public. However, today that has finally changed.

After so many years, I have finally gained enough mental and emotional fortitude to pick up the XD-S pistol that was gifted to me years ago and shoot it for the first time.

Yes, I did cry at first from the overwhelming smell, sound, and memory of gunshots. However, I made it through and found the courage to keep going long enough to be steady in my aim.

So, I want to just pass on good wishes and encourage anyone who is struggling to just keep going and keep doing what you love.

Hi @Jen-with.the.Shepherds,

Yours is an amazing story. Thanks for sharing it with us. I can't imagine what you've been through but I can see the recovery you've made and the courage you possess.

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of good experienced folks here who'd be happy to answer questions and keep you pointed in the right direction, so to speak. ;)

I have several XD pistols and I'm generally a Springfield fanboy. Feel free to let us know how you are progressing. I post up my lousy targets here almost every week. Yours looks better. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Welcome from Northeast Pennsylvania Jen. I feel that after such a traumatic event that you’ve gone through, it’s extremely admirable that you have been able to overcome and get back out and about. From the picture you have posted, it’s also apparent that you a very accurate shot. Keep up the practice and the best of luck going forward. 👍
