Flat And Curved Triggers

So here is a question I’ve been thinking about asking, I understand completely that there is a lot more to the trigger then it being a flat or curved design but aside and including the internal differences from that I’m looking to see from the forum what is preferred in regards to one over the other.

It's not so much the shape of the trigger for me but the space between the trigger and trigger guard: In the heat of the moment, if I can't easily and quickly place a gloved finger squarely on the trigger then I could be in trouble. (Here, where the temperature is often below freezing for weeks, people wear gloves. I don't think a bad guy is going to wait for me to remove my glove then reach for my pistol.)

I have a slight preference for curved triggers because they conform to the shape of your finger whereas flat ones don't; there's just a bit more tactile sense that way...which may give one more control over trigger movement, but I don't know.

i never thought much about this, until now.

as it is, in my collection, i have a variety of triggers. i don't believe i wanna switch them all out for one style over another. in fact, when i buy a gun, i never give the trigger's shape any thought whatsoever.

I personally like flat triggers better. I like the feel and surface area and I feel like I get a better pull. I wouldn't NOT buy something with a curved trigger, I have a few, nor would I necessarily switch them out, but I definitely prefer flat.

CMC is the only brand of trigger that I own with the same trigger weight and internal design. Both are great triggers, but the curved gives a little more room inside the trigger guard. The flat seems to be a shorter pull with the same weight wherever finger placement is. The curved depending on finger placement will have the same pull weight, but length of pull changes dependent on finger placement. Whether the trigger shoe is textured or smooth doesn't/hasn't make/made ant difference too me. I usually buy trigger shoe types depending on firearm use. AR styles under 16" I like curved style. 16" - 26" AR style I have both styles. High power long range so far are factory triggers which are/have curved. Some might be changed out in the future?

It doesn't matter what I think looks better, I shoot better with my curved trigger over the original flat trigger. It may have more to do with the pull weight.

The only flat trigger I have is single stage about 6.5-7 lbs. When I switch it to a curved 2 stage 3.5 lb trigger I shoot it better. So to be fair, I really have more homework to do to know for sure ... is it the pull weight, 1 or 2 stage or flat vs curved? But every little test costs money.

Flat or curved--I consider flat triggers so butt-ugly I wouldn't consider buying one. But if you have a flat trigger finger, maybe it would work for you.

For triggers with a short pull--DA revolvers being shot SA, bolt action rifles, etc.-- I like a wide trigger. Love the trigger of the old Colt Gold Cup but the frame has to be modified to take it, and I don't want to add a trigger shoe to a regular 1911 trigger, so I live without. Also love the old S&W Target Trigger (.400" wide) for single action shooting only. Hate it for DA. Some years back I happened to buy a new S&W that came with the then-new smooth .312 "Combat Trigger" and found it was the perfect compromise for both SA and DA shooting--better than the standard .265" grooved trigger for DA and MUCH better than the .400" grooved for DA, and almost as good as the .400" Target for SA. I had a couple old .400" Target triggers on hand and I promptly ground them down to the same width and shape as the .312" Combat with a Dremel and put them on my 4" M19 and 6" K-22.

For a revolver I would NEVER have a flat trigger on it! Sig Legion I think have flat triggers and could be a good 1?
