Just reading about this, sounds like it is basically a common occurrence on US and Brit subs too. The compression of the hulls at depth and water Temps makes adhesion problematic.

The Russians might have more trouble due to the titanium use in thier hulls it says.

No idea how reliable the source is but an interesting read if true. The there was another i read too but forget where.
