Most definitely function over form. My EDC choices are "concealed" carry, that to me means just that, concealed. I don't remove them to show them to others when I'm wearing them. So as far as I'm concerned looks aren't important. But 1911s make me smile.

Not gonna carry a Russian Nagant or a Hipoint. While different guns speak to folks in different ways, you can have better guns.

Personally, I’ve always thought the XD line were homely as all get-out—particularly the sun-compacts, and the XDm with the tire-sipe grips.

I kinda like Glocks—very much form following function. Sleek; nothing there that doesn’t need to be.

That being said, it’s purely function over looks.

But—you can have both.

1911's are horrid on reliability! Mag sensitive....nuf said! Dis glocks, but reliable! Some hk is fugly as fugly can be! 1911's suck to high heaven! Big reason I have issues with those horrid pos is grip angle! Doesn't work for me. The 1st 1 I bought was in 45acp.........well I thought the cartridge was terrible, until I bought a g21. Couldn't beat the accuracy, fit and function! Ugly can save your life! If I really want to carry a real gun it would be a 629 44mag. Beats any semi every day of the week!
